Is the 2018 Chevy Camaro ZL1 1LE faster than Santa’s sleigh? A comparison chart from GMPartsCenter.net provides some insight. At first, it seems close – really close – but a clear winner does emerge. When I was a kid, I wondered how Santa Claus made it around the world, to every house, in just one night. My parents and I lived in an apartment, which only complicated matters. Since we didn’t have a chimney, one year I asked my father how Santa was going to get in. When my father, a distinguished college professor, assured me he would leave the patio door unlocked, I inquired if that were safe. “It’s a small town, we should be fine,” my father responded. Super Sled Still, Santa would need a fast rig to make every house and a new Camaro sounds like the ticket. Last year, the 2018 Camaro ZL1 1LE set a record time on the Nürburgring, making it the fastest Camaro ever on the famed German track. With a supercharged LT4 engine and Brembo … [Read more...] about Can The Chevy Camaro ZL1 1LE Take On Santa’s Sleigh?
On paper, a track comparison between the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE, Corvette ZR1 and Dodge Demon would result in a clear winner. When Top Gear gathered these three insane American performance cars together, the outcome would seem obvious. Much to our surprise, however, it wasn’t the Corvette ZR1 which came out on top. To conduct this test, the British publication headed to Thermal Raceway in California and, unlike most track tests, this wasn’t just about seeing which of the three is the fastest. The test was also about discovering which of the three is the best overall package and most suited to use in Europe. With deputy editor Jack Rix behind the wheel, the first of the trio to be eliminated was the Corvette ZR1. This comes despite the fact that it is the most track-focused of the three, looks the craziest and has an insane 6.2-liter supercharged V8 delivering 755 hp and 715 lb-ft of torque, for a 0-60 mph (96 km/h) time of 2.85 seconds and a 212 mph (341 km/h) top speed. … [Read more...] about Corvette ZR1, Camaro ZL1 1LE And Dodge Demon Engage In All-American Sports Car Battle
The Chevrolet Camaro has developed so dramatically in recent years that it’s easy to think it’s now become the company’s flagship performance car. However, it’s the Corvette that still holds that crown. As it stands, the range-topping Camaro is the ZL1 1LE, powered by a mammoth 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine delivering 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. Those figures are identical to the C7-generation Corvette Z06, but that vehicle is no longer the fastest and most expensive road-going Corvette sold. Instead, that honor has been passed on to the Corvette ZR1, a brand new model outfitted with a bespoke supercharged 6.2-liter LT5 V8 delivering 755 hp and 715 lb-ft. Just how much faster does this make the Corvette over the Camaro? To find out, Sport Auto Magazine in Germany pitted the two U.S. performance cars together around the Hockenheim circuit for a shootout. Unsurprisingly, it was the ZR1 that reigned supreme on the day, recording a fastest lap of 1:06.9. The … [Read more...] about Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 And Camaro ZL1 1LE Face Off On The Track
Hennessey Performance Engineering's aftermarket answer to the Dodge Challenger Demon is the Chevrolet Camaro Exorcist. In a new video, we're treated to the sights and sounds that result when HPE applies its black magic to the Camaro ZL1 1LE. The video is put together to showcase the raw power found in the Camaro Exorcist. To recap, HPE was able to massage 1,000 horsepower out of the ZL1's 6.2-liter LT4 V-8 engine, mostly thanks to a larger supercharger and intercooler system, which is dialed in to produce 14 psi of boost pressure. In all, 959 gloriously evil ponies make their way to the rear wheels. We also know the standard Camaro ZL1 Exorcist will dust a Dodge Demon at the dragstrip. Previous HPE testing showed the Exorcist was able to top the Demon's 9.65-second time with a 9.57-second quarter-mile run. The Exorcist will also top out at 217 mph and reach 60 mph in just 2.1 seconds. But, we have to remember the Dodge Demon accomplished its accolades with a mere … [Read more...] about Listen to the Hennessey Exorcist Camaro ZL1 1LE rip, snort, and roar
Of course, Hennessey Performance Engineering tuned a Cadillac Escalade. But, not only has HPE tuned and modified the giant luxury SUV, the company has turned it into a drag strip slayer. To exemplify HPE's work, the company lined up its 805-horsepower Escalade next to a 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE, which pushes 650 horsepower. Keep in mind, the Escalade weighs around 1,700 pounds more than the Camaro. The extra power, however, is more than enough to scoot the luxo-barge down the straightaway much quicker. Immediately after launch, the Escalade starts to pull away from the Camaro ZL1 1LE. After just a couple of seconds, the Escalade seals the pony car's fate as it drifts further behind. HPE's Escalade boasts a 2.9-liter supercharger with 10 psi of boost paired to a stroked 416-cubic inch V-8, which explains the mad acceleration. The tuning company says the Escalade will reach 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and clock an 11.7-second quarter-mile time. HPE also replaces many other … [Read more...] about Watch a Cadillac Escalade smoke a Camaro ZL1 1LE
