VW allegedly gets U.S. approval to buy back or fix dirty V6 diesels
Would follow a similar agreement reached in June to fix or repair up to 475,000 cars fitted with the 2.0 TDI engine. Latest report is indicating Volkswagen, the Environmental Protection Agency, and California’s Air Resources Board have reached an agreement about how to handle around 79,000 cars powered by the cheating 3.0-liter V6 TDI engine . According to sources close to the matter cited by Bloomberg , the three are about to sign a deal stipulating VW will take the responsibility of fixing around 60,000 vehicles equipped with the problematic turbodiesel engine. The fix is going to be very easy to apply as the engineers will only have to install a software update for the TDI unit, which was developed by Audi. The same thing can’t be said about approximately 19,000 older cars which would need more than just new software. According to the report, it would be too complex to fix those cars, so VW will have no other way but to buy them back. By not having to repurchase all … [Read more...] about VW allegedly gets U.S. approval to buy back or fix dirty V6 diesels

GM Considering Supercharged Escalade, Tahoe, And Yukon: Report
Finally some extra grunt for GM's full-size options. GM's full-size SUV lineup underwent a total overhaul in the past two years. The Cadillac Escalade , GMC Yukon , and Chevrolet Tahoe are all brand new for the 2021 model year. And those large SUVs come with the choice of either naturally aspirated V8 power or an efficient six-cylinder turbodiesel engine. But now the trio could get another powertrain option. According to a report from Motor Trend , citing an unnamed source, GM is considering a supercharged version of all three of its full-size SUVs. The supercharger would be dealer-installed, and could – in theory – add an additional 200 horsepower (149 kilowatts) to the standard 6.2-liter V8, which itself produces 420 hp (313 kW). That would put total output for those supercharged SUVs at just over 600 hp (447 kW) if this report is true. With that much grunt, the Tahoe would be better suited against powerful alternatives like the Jeep … [Read more...] about GM Considering Supercharged Escalade, Tahoe, And Yukon: Report
Three new S5000 chassis arrive in Australia
The delivery of the tubs was taken by Garry Rogers Motorsport, which is responsible for production of the cars for the V8-powered series. This means that up to 17 S5000 cars could take part in the opening round of the new S5000 season in Melbourne, the original order of 14 cars having already been delivered in tranches in 2019. A further three cars remain on order, which will take the total grid size up to 20 cars. “When we took the original cars on, the aim was to have 14 for the first event, which we achieved,” said GRM boss Barry Rogers. "Our overall objective was to have a total of 20 cars in the country, because we believe that this category has all of the ingredients to be a successful, exciting show. “Any reasonable motorsport category needs to have at least 20 cars, so we’ve stuck with the plan, and this is the first installment towards that. “GRM has not wavered from its commitment to this class. All of our team really love being … [Read more...] about Three new S5000 chassis arrive in Australia
