WXYZ Detroit - It’s a historic road that goes by many names. Woodward Avenue is America’s first highway, Detroit’s main street, Automotive Heritage Trail and the All-American Road. It has stood the test of time and is synonymous with cruising. The countdown is on for the world’s largest one-day automotive event; the annual Woodward Dream Cruise presented by Ford. It’s a pure Detroit, free to the public, nostalgic throwback to the 1950’s and 60’s where four-wheeled steel beauties ruled American streets. It’s also a salute to this nation’s engineering and design expertise as well as our love affair with fast cars and big trucks. No wonder this popular event that began 24 years ago as a soccer field fundraiser, has grown into a week-long cruising festival attracting over 1 million people and 3-thousand classic cars. We, at WXYZ, are thrilled to be the official broadcast … [Read more...] about WXYZ Editorial: How America’s first highway celebrates Detroit’s auto cruising history
WXYZ Detroit - It was a smart and bold decision for organizers of the North American International Auto Show. Moving the traditional Detroit show from January to a much warmer June, beginning in 2020, makes good sense! The Motor City is changing and this is the right time for the auto show to do the same. It also renews interest from foreign automakers and provides new opportunities on how to showcase our #1 industry to the world. Our revitalized downtown Detroit will look a lot different in June than it does in January to our international guests. The weather also gives the show a chance to host vehicle-related events in more riverfront venues and downtown parks to better compliment the Cobo Convention Center. The idea of a month … [Read more...] about WXYZ Editorial: North American International Auto Show’s smart move!

WWJ reports that at about 6 a.m. a suspect came up to the station's car and struck the windshield and driver’s side window with a baton while the station’s reporter Mike Campbell was in the middle of a live shot for a report on a fatal pedestrian crash on Dexter Avenue and Davison Street. Campbell said in a WWJ report that he had put the windows up because he had started his report and saw the man, who seemed to be walking in front of the truck. The man was saying “foul words,” Campbell said, and “apparently, just, something angered him, he turned around and attacked the news truck." "My truck just got hit by a bat and I'm sorry, guys, I've gotta go," Campbell said while reporting live onair. … [Read more...] about WXYZ, WWJ journalists attacked in Detroit while on assignment
