Eat of the Week: Vietnamese steak and eggs at a Montrose coffee shop that can do it all

August 19, 2022 by www.chron.com Leave a Comment

Every Friday, Chron's food team shares a standout dish from their experiences dining out during the week. Follow along to see why we love these Houston eats. The eat: Blacksmith's Vietnamese steak and eggs ($15) I am constantly battling the challenge of finding a coffee shop where I love both the coffee and the food menu. Some places have a brew I can't live without, but a sad version of avocado toast, and others have the breakfast tacos I need in my life, but a lackluster coffee bar. And don't get me started on an only-pastry program—this coffee addict needs a savory bite. Despite the plethora of coffee shops in every neighborhood around town, I find myself returning time and time again to Blacksmith in Montrose, where both the eats and drinks have been unparalleled for 10 years, thanks to longtime coffee guru David Buehrer, and talented chef Erin Smith Feges, who created the shop's opening menu. Here, coffee cups are giant and served scalding hot, because who wants to … [Read more...] about Eat of the Week: Vietnamese steak and eggs at a Montrose coffee shop that can do it all

This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 Growing up, Zoe Terrell dreamed of becoming an artist - she sketched scenes from her local farmers market and even won drawing competitions in her native South Korea. But she eventually learned what many creative people know too well. "My dad was like, 'Well, drawing is not going to feed you,' " Terrell says. So she studied education in college and, after moving to the United States in 2008, taught Korean - that is, until a curious job listing caught her eye. An ocean away, Terrell called her dad with surprising news: "Hey, guess what, Dad? Now, drawing is going to feed me," she recalls with a laugh. Terrell is one of hundreds of sign artists employed by grocery store Trader Joe's. You probably know the idiosyncratic chain for its eccentric snacks and peppy cashiers, but that festive atmosphere extends to the stores' interior design, too: Each of the 500-plus outposts has custom, … [Read more...] about Behind every Trader Joe’s sign is a working artist who painted it

Reynolds refutes co-driver switch claim

August 19, 2022 by www.motorsport.com Leave a Comment

Listen to this article Grove Racing announced its Bathurst 1000 pairings earlier this week, confirming that Reynolds will partner Porsche factory driver Campbell, while Super2 regular Payne will be paired with Lee Holdsworth . That came as somewhat of a surprise given it had long been expected that Payne would be with Reynolds and Campbell in the Holdsworth car. However, when asked why the switch happened, Reynolds refuted that a decision had ever been made on driver pairings. He said it was always left open until a final decision was made by the team in recent weeks. Reynolds also said he would have been happy with either of the 'Matts' as his co-driver for the Great Race, although conceded that he is a better physical fit with Campbell rather than Payne. "At the start of the year everyone assumed things but there was nothing determined in terms of which of the Matts we would be paired with," he said. "I think they only got together recently to decide what was … [Read more...] about Reynolds refutes co-driver switch claim

Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 5 BEIRUT (AP) — A rocket attack on a crowded market in a town held by Turkey-backed opposition fighters in northern Syria Friday killed 15 people and wounded dozens, an opposition war monitor and a paramedic group reported. The attack on the town of al-Bab came days after a Turkish airstrike killed at least 11 Syrian troops and U.S.-backed Kurdish fighters. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an opposition war monitor, blamed Syrian government forces for the shelling Friday, saying it was in retaliation for the Turkish airstrike. The Observatory said the attack killed 15 people, including three children, and wounded more than 30. The opposition’s Syrian Civil Defense, also known as White Helmets, had the same death but said 28 were wounded. The paramedic group said its members evacuated some of the wounded and the dead bodies. “This is the worst massacres committed … [Read more...] about Market blast in north Syria kills 15 people, wounds dozens
