Even though the second-gen S60 didn’t go around winning comparison tests left and right, the general consensus has been that it’s a well-built, safe and good-looking car. Of course, these types of realizations came nearly a full decade ago, as the predecessor to the all-new 2019 S60 was unveiled in late 2009 and entered production at the beginning of 2010. Those were different times, as this particular segment was all about the A4/C-Class/3-Series trio. By the time Volvo upgraded the S60 in 2014, BMW and Mercedes had already introduced all-new generations of the 3-Series (F30) and C-Class (W205), so it was about time Volvo treated us to an all-new compact executive saloon. To be fair, the 2014 update was quite substantial, as the S60 received a new hood, new front fenders, larger grille, new headlights, new LED DRLs, a new infotainment display and quite a lot of new safety gear, like the new radar-based Blind Spot Information System. Out with the old Even with its upgraded … [Read more...] about How Does The New 2019 Volvo S60 Stack Up Compared To Its Predecessor?

The new X5 is larger than its predecessor, with a wheelbase 42mm longer, an increase in vehicle length of 36mm, an extra 66mm of width and a 19mm increase in height. In front view the most distinctive feature is the large kidney grille with a taller shape and a single-piece surround. The grille now feature active air flaps for increased aerodynamic efficiency. The dark surfaces of the air intakes are also taller, and the result is a more focus on the vertical lines and a more imposing presence. The LED lighting units now have an hexagonal shape, which sets them further apart from the iconic circular lights used for decades. In side view the new X5 maintains the sculpted character of the model, introducing a new surface treatment in the sill area and a distinctive feature in the main character line, which rises up at the rear door – something that vaguely reminds of the Audi Q2. The most distinctive design feature of the rear end is the horizontal design of the tail lights, … [Read more...] about The new BMW X5
Peugeot wants social media users to “break the code” and uncover the identity of an entirely new vehicle that’s coming later this year. We played a bit with the video posted by the French automaker on Twitter, and after flipping over one of the images, we quickly realized it’s very likely the new 508 SW. The second variant of the 508, after the liftback version that debuted in Geneva, is expected to premiere at the beginning of October during the 2018 Paris Auto Show. Offered with an identical front end and cabin as the already available 508, the estate will have a longer rear overhang and specific tailgate. Thanks to its new configuration, the boot capacity will significantly increase over the liftback’s 487 liters (17.2 cu-ft), with the rear seats up. Creating a successor to a vehicle as iconic as the Toyota Supra was never going to be easy. It’s therefore rather fitting that the Japanese marque is taking its time in making the new sports car a reality. During a recent interview with a Japanese publication, Toyota chief engineer Tetsuya Tada revealed that work on the model has been underway since early 2012, SupraMKV reports. “I was in the middle of the 86 Press Launch in Spain when I received a call from Japan. It was Uchiyamada-san (VP of Toyota) asking/ordering me to go to Germany,” Tada-san said. The engineer had previously been instrumental in the creation of the Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ and was a fitting choice to lead the development of the new-age Supra. “Besides working with Subaru on the twins, I also have experience working with Daihatsu on the Passo,” Tada-san said of Toyota’s decision to choose him to develop the car. “So I guess I have experience negotiating with other … [Read more...] about Toyota Started Working On The New Supra In Early 2012
Presented officially earlier this spring, the new Mercedes-AMG 53 models are already available to order in Germany and will arrive at dealers in August. The lineup includes the E-Class Coupe, E-Class Cabriolet and new CLS, all of which share the same powertrain, a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six with a starter-alternator that powers a 48V electrical system. Mercedes-AMG says that all three models have 435 PS (429 hp / 320 kW) and 520 Nm (384 lb-ft) of torque from the internal combustion lump, along with 22 PS (22 hp / 16 kW) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque from the EQ unit. Naught to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) takes 4.4sec, 4.4sec and 4.5sec, respectively, and top speed is electronically capped at 250km/h (155mph) on all of them. Full Car Details More Reviews One of the best things about the new 2019 Subaru Ascent, aside from the robustly safe new vehicle architecture, and the elevation defying turbocharged engine, and the standard all-wheel drive with 8.7 inches of ground clearance, and the roomy class-competitive interior space, and so many other laudable things about this new family-sized 3-row SUV, is that you can get water- and stain-resistant cloth seats in combination with big wheels, captain’s chairs, and all of the desirable technology for less than $40,000. Whew. I know. Long sentence. So here’s the deal with the new Ascent. People who buy Subarus end up loving Subarus. Except for the B9 Tribeca, the company’s first attempt at building a midsize 3-row crossover SUV. People didn’t love that, and it died after an undeservedly ignominious run of nearly a decade. Since the Tribeca departed for that big junkyard in the sky, Subaru lovers who needed a bigger … [Read more...] about First Drive: What does a Subaru lover’s dream vehicle look like? If there are two things that are in abundance in racing, it’s GT3 cars and Porsche 911s. Eight of the 29 cars in the top class at this weekend’s Nürburgring 24 Hours are 911 GT3 Rs, so this was as good a place as any to unveil the new 2019 version. It’s meant to be faster and easier to drive than ever, which of course means I’d like to hoon it. [Full disclosure: Porsche wanted me to check out the new 911 GT3 R so badly that they paid for travel, lodging and food to the Nürburgring 24 Hours weekend. In return, they’re having to listen to me badger them about not giving us a ‘Ring time for the 919 Hybrid Evo yet.] GT3 is an international, usually pro-am spec of race car where different kinds of cars are homologated to be roughly competitive with each other, out of the box. They’re simple and easy—customer teams order them as complete race cars to run, and they receive significant factory support at events. It’s the reason … [Read more...] about This Is The New Porsche 911 GT3 R That You’re About To See Racing Everywhere
THE driving test has undergone its biggest shake-up in more than 20 years - but what will it mean for new learners? The new laws came into force in December 2017 with new manoeuvres to make it more like real-world driving for learners. Here's the lowdown. What are the new driving test laws? The independent driving part of the test will increase from ten to 20 minutes. The ability to use a sat navs will be introduced into the test. The reverse around a corner and turn in the road manoeuvres will no longer be tested. But you’ll still be tested on parallel parking, parking in a bay and pulling up on the right-hand side of the road. You’ll still be asked the "tell me" question at the start of the test but the "show me" question will be asked during the test - for example showing how to use windscreen wipers. The revised list of tasks in order to pass the new driving test also includes asking candidates to pull up on the right hand side of the road and reverse two car … [Read more...] about What are the new driving test rules, will I have to use a sat nav and when will learners have lessons on motorways?
