BDC ROUND 1 2018 – Rockingham- Concrete Jungle. With Funk Motorsport onboard for another year, preparations began early for Oliver Bolton to get the S13 ready for a year of fierce competition with the BDC round 1 at Rockingham Motor Speedway. ‘So as the drift season came to an end, it was time to give the S13 a makeover in the winter months leading up to BDC round 1. Our goals for the S13 were to make it reliable and a lot lighter to get it down to the 1000kg mark. So the stripping began by us cutting the front and rear end… quite literally off! We had the front and rear tubed, making working on the car more accessible, lighter, increasing airflow and in the event of an impact it will be easier to repair. With a full fibreglass rear 1/4 clam shell, fibre glass tail gate, fibre glass doors, wings, bumpers, bonnet and body kit, we began to see our weight saving in action! As temperatures drop could winter tyres help drivers stay on the road? A legal requirement in many European countries, winter tyres are not compulsory in the UK. However, sales are growing year-on-year as more drivers seek extra grip in wet and icy weather. Do you need winter tyres? We explore what they are and how much they will cost. What are winter tyres? Winter tyres are specially designed to improve safety in cold weather. They are designed to perform when the temperature drops below 7 degrees Celsius. Winter tyres are made using a rubber compound that does not harden when the temperature drops below 7 degrees Celsius and this can improve grip and reduce stopping distances in the event of an emergency stop. Winter tyres usually have deeper tread to add extra grip and disperse surface water, making them safer and more … [Read more...] about Do I need winter tyres?
Let's have a peep into the near future: You wake to find the road outside your home liberally covered in snow … and the imminent drive to work seems even less inviting then usual. A thought suddenly springs to mind: ‘Should I have invested in winter tyres?’ Figures show that UK drivers are six times more likely to have an accident during the winter months, with the numbers rising further when snow and ice add extra hazards. So a seasonal move to cold weather tyres is becoming increasingly popular, but most of us have little idea of their effectiveness. Before the chilly conditions begin, we decided to call on someone with relevant recent experience. Lee Meredith, who swapped England for Norway is now used to taking to the wheel in freezing conditions. Lee, who works in the oil industry, drives a Kia Sportage. The front-wheel drive model dons winter tyres when the temperature, inevitably, drops. In Norway, as with other Scandinavian and Alpine countries, there is … [Read more...] about Should UK drivers buy winter tyres?
