An ultra-rare 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO sold for $48.4 million (£37.7 million - including fees) in the RM Sotheby’s Monterey sale on 25th August, breaking the world record for the most expensive car ever auctioned. Three telephone bidders competed for the car, considered the 'holy grail' for serious collectors, before the hammer came down at $44 million. A remarkable fact about the Ferrari 250 GTO is not just its rarity, but the fact that it isn’t rarer still. When you build cars, particularly fast cars, you expect a few to get lost, crashed or cremated along the way. Between 1962 and 1964, just 36 examples of this ultimate racing Ferrari were built, and every single one of them survives until this... Who owns the most expensive car in kenya
FACEBOOK founder Mark Zuckerberg would need just 36 seconds to pay for his modest Honda Jazz, according to data released by GoCompare. Using the Forbes Top 100 highest-paid athletes and Top 100 highest-paid billionaires lists, the insurance comparison site revealed a world far removed from PCP deals, lease contracts and finance. Along with his Jazz (known as the Honda Fit outside of the UK), Zuckerberg, who could afford any car in the world, also drives an Acura TSX because it’s “safe, comfortable and not ostentatious”. Not that the Facebook founder and CEO is adverse to splashing the cash – he also owns a Pagani Huayra worth a cool £1.9million. Based on his annual earnings, Zuckerberg would need a minute and a half to pay for his Italian hypercar, while Tesla chief Elon Musk would require 98 days to pay for his McLaren F1. But neither Zuckerberg or Musk own the most expensive car in the billionaire set, with that honour falling to Walmart tycoon Samuel … [Read more...] about How quickly the world’s richest people can pay off their cars and who owns the most expensive
I thought we were done hearing about the Pagani Zonda after its 18-year production run ended last year, but a few special edition stragglers are still showing up in the news. Today, it concerns the Zonda HP Barchetta, which Pagani says will cost $17.5 million. Excuse me while I go throw up. Pagani confirmed the price of the special edition car to Top Gear, saying that the car will be €15 million, which is approximately $17.5. Does that make it the most expensive new car ever? Probably! It’s more expensive than the one-off Rolls-Royce Sweptail, which sold for about $13 million. The HP stands for company founder Horacio Pagani’s initials. There will only be three HP Barchettas and one of them belongs to him. The other two have apparently already been spoken for. You missed out. The car has a mighty 6.0-liter, twin-turbo V12 with 800 horsepower. But! All of that is hooked up to a six-speed manual. Who says manual transmissions are dying out? And if you look at it … [Read more...] about The $17.5 Million Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta Is the Most Expensive Car in the World
At a selling price of £52 million, this 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO is the most expensive car to ever sold. They say – “Records are meant to be broken”, and here goes another one. Recently, a 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO became the most expensive car ever sold at an auction. The car was reportedly bought by David MacNeil, CEO of car weather protection accessories company WeatherTech for £52 million ($69.7 million). This particular 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO has a glorious history behind it. It has won a number of motorsport events including the 1963 Le Mans 24 Hours, Angolan Grand Prix and others. Throughout its racing career, the car was crashed, making it even more special. It has also made numerous public appearances and more recently at Goodwood Revival between 1997 and 2000, when it was owned by Nicolaus Springer. Before MacNeil, the car was owned by renowned German racing driver Christian Glaesel for the last 15 years. It was restored from Ferrari restoration … [Read more...] about 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO Becomes the Most Expensive Car Ever Sold
Tweet TweetSome say it’s the most expensive auctioned car ever. Others don’t agree, as another item had been sold at a very close price two years ago. So, where is the truth? The truth is that the two most expensive cars in the world are made by Ferrari. Even more: nine cars in the top ten’s most expensive ever sold are Ferrari! Here are the facts: two days ago, at Artcurial Motorcars auction in Paris, a 1957 Ferrari 335S has been hammered for $35.7m. However, at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, in 2014, a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO had been sold for the biggest price ever: $38.1m. The $2.4m difference seems quite big, but the problem is that the Euro-USD exchange rate changed in the last two years. If we consider exchanging the USD in Euro at the time each car was sold, then the 335S would be the expensive car in the world, topping the 250 GTO by €3.6m. If you think there are only details, thing again: when you spend more than $30m on a car, you expect to get … [Read more...] about Is Ferrari 335s The Most Expensive Car In The World?
