Until this season, it was just LE, brother GT and father Gary Tonglet traveling from race to race by truck. “Last year we were working on the bike, driving to a lot of places… it was a lot of time involved,” Tonglet said. There was a lot of stress involved in making every race and earning his stripes as a firefighter, Tonglet’s weekday job. Toward the end of his 2016 championship season, Jerry Savoie of WAR realized the best way to amplify his NHRA program was to add another motorcycle. “My crew chief suggested it,” Savoie said of Timothy Kulungian, who makes the tuning decision for both motorcycles. “When you look at a lot of teams out here that are making eight runs in qualifying when we … [Read more...] about Will Tonglet earn his second NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle title?

Harvey: Flexibility key to avoid a repeat of disastrous 2022
Listen to this article The highly-regarded Harvey had an unusually disappointing season last year, starting off badly with a shunts in practice at St. Petersburg and at Texas, the latter of which forced him to miss the race on medical advisement. Thereafter, regularly poor qualifying results limited his chances for strong finishes on race day, so that his best result was a 10 th at Nashville. And while RLL started off badly, a midseason change in setup philosophy saw Harvey’s teammates Christian Lundgaard and Graham Rahal contending for podiums, whereas the 29-year-old Briton remained mired. He finished 22 nd in the points race, compared with 11 th and 14 th for Rahal and Lundgaard respectively. Asked if he could explain what happened, Harvey replied: “Lots – lots of things happened. Gallery: All the angles as Williams unveil Gulf-inspired FW45 car
After months of speculation, Williams have confirmed a partnership with Gulf Oil and showcased their first car of the new partnership. The FW45, which aims to improve on last season’s P10 finish, is coloured in the traditional blue of Williams but fans may be a little disappointed to not see a more radical change. The iconic light blue and orange colour scheme of Gulf is on the 2023 challenger but, unlike McLaren in previous Monaco Grands Prix, Williams have only added subtle hints of the sponsor’s colour scheme. Instead, the car is predominantly in the Williams blue, a darker shade than that of Gulf, with a new design added to the wheel covers. The team remains in a sponsorship with Duracell and that has led to the engine cover picking up the colours of the famous battery company. The Gulf sponsorship meanwhile is on the rear wing as well as the nose with the light blue and orange tone also featured all around the car. Return of the modest superstar, Larry Dixon
Listen to this article It’s not hard to remember times when NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series fields were over-subscribed with racers vying to make the fields of 16 that race in Sunday eliminations. Go or go home was the mantra. The financial demands of big-time drag racing have taken their toll on fields in the past few years and some drivers and teams have, due to financial hardship, departed the sport, no longer able to function at the highest standards. That wasn’t the case for three-time NHRA Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon. True, he lost his ride with Bob Vandergriff Racing (BVR) at the end of the 2015 season when Leah Pritchett brought sponsorship to the team, but at the time Dixon had been dealing with an even bigger battle than one with a 10,000-horsepower-plus dragster. He was recovering from throat cancer; Dixon needed to beat that devil to the winner’s beam. After whipping throat cancer with radiation and chemotherapy over the 2014 off-season (he called it … [Read more...] about Return of the modest superstar, Larry Dixon

We were both close on the tree, but we snuck one out there. “Nobody is blowing people out anymore,” he observed. “The only way you win is by inches. To win that final was monumental for our team. We needed to do that. We’re still not done working yet.” Torrence raced past Clay Millican, Leah Pritchett and Shawn Langdon en route to his seventh final round appearance of the season.
