Red Bull’s Max Verstappen has called for a second DRS zone to be introduced at Imola to encourage overtaking at the track which is holding the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix this weekend. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free Drivers can only use their Drag Reduction System once per lap along the pit straight. This zone, which has been extended for F1’s return, leads from the high-speed final corner of track down to the first braking zone at the second corner, Tamburello. But Verstappen, who spent much of last year’s race trying to overtake Valtteri Bottas , expects it will still be “super hard” to overtake even when the longer DRS zone is used. The activation zone lasts almost a kilometre on a track which is 4.9km long. The detection point is positioned at the end of another straight which leads to the Rivazza left-handers towards the end of the lap, another favoured overtaking place. Verstappen believes this would be a good spot for another DRS zone. “We can … [Read more...] about F1: Verstappen wants second DRS zone added to Imola · RaceFans

Astros continue home dominance against Rangers with win
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 8 HOUSTON (AP) — Houston catcher Martín Maldonado entered Thursday's game batting just .116. But with the Astros clinging to a one-run lead and the bases loaded with two outs in the eighth inning, manager Dusty Baker decided to stick with the veteran instead of using a pinch hitter. Baker's decision paid off when Maldonado hit a three-run double to give the Astros some insurance in a 5-1 win over the Texas Rangers. “Sometimes, in the right circumstance, you’ve got to give a confidence at-bat to somebody," Baker said. “It was a left-hander and fortunate for us Martín cleared the bases. You can’t hit for him all the time or else he’ll never get any confidence." Jose Altuve added a season-high four hits to back a strong start by Framber Valdez and help the Astros continue their home dominance of the Rangers. The victory extended Houston’s winning … [Read more...] about Astros continue home dominance against Rangers with win
Ducati riders “will think twice” about joining MotoGP rivals
Listen to this article The Italian manufacturer will likely shake up its line-up for the 2023 season, with Jack Miller expected to lose his place at the factory squad. French Grand Prix winner Enea Bastianini and Pramac’s Jorge Martin are the favourites to get the Australian’s seat, with the former strengthening his claim after taking his third win of the season last weekend at Le Mans on his 2021-spec Gresini-run Ducati. Martin’s manager was seen at Le Mans speaking with Honda, but Ducati’s sporting director Ciabatti is convinced no matter who out of Bastianini and Martin gets the factory seat will "listen to a Ducati proposal before going anywhere else". "I think any rider who is riding a Ducati today will think twice before going anywhere else," Ciabatti told Motorsport.com at Le Mans when asked if Ducati was worried it could alienate Martin or Bastianini with its factory line-up decision. "Not only because the bike is very competitive, I think the overall … [Read more...] about Ducati riders “will think twice” about joining MotoGP rivals

McLaren are expected to put Colton Herta in their car later this season for an FP1 run, the Woking team giving the American a trial that has pundits suggesting a Formula 1 drive could be in his future.
