Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free That the top two in the championship represent Chip Ganassi Racing and Team Penske, respectively, is not a surprise. Since the reunification of major American open-wheel racing in 2008, IndyCar has awarded a season championship 14 times and only once has it not gone to a driver from either of these two powerhouse teams. But it is more of a surprise to find Marcus Ericsson leading the charge for Ganassi and Will Power doing the same for Penske. These weren’t two names which were widely tipped as top contenders back in February when the season began at St. Petersburg, Florida. With Álex Palou entering as the reigning IndyCar champion after his first year with Ganassi and six-time champion Scott Dixon … [Read more...] about Ericsson not the only unexpected name leading IndyCar points at halfway · RaceFans
Russia will soon exhaust its combat capabilities, Western assessments predict
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 The Russian military will soon exhaust its combat capabilities and be forced to bring its offensive in Ukraine's eastern Donbas region to a grinding halt, according to Western intelligence predictions and military experts. "There will come a time when the tiny advances Russia is making become unsustainable in light of the costs and they will need a significant pause to regenerate capability," said a senior Western official, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive issue. The assessments come despite continued Russian advances against outgunned Ukrainian forces, including the capture on Friday of the town of Severodonetsk, the biggest urban center taken by Russia in the east since launching the latest Donbas offensive nearly three months ago. The Russians are now closing in on the adjacent city of Lysychank, on the opposite bank of the Donetsk river. The town's … [Read more...] about Russia will soon exhaust its combat capabilities, Western assessments predict
Rolls-Royce Phantom 6×6 Conversion Proves The World Has Gone Mad
Listen to this article Modified Rolls-Royce cars are a few and far between, and rightfully so. One of the reasons for that is that Rolls-Royce is already offering bespoke options for its customers to make their vehicles truly unique. Another, and definitely the more compelling one, is that the British luxury automaker can actually ban you from buying another Rolls-Royce if you modify their vehicles. But that didn't stop one 2004 Rolls-Royce Phantom owner to convert it into a beast of a vehicle – a 6x6 conversion, modified to look like it's ready for a Mad Max sequel. While we've seen a number of crazy 6x6 conversions before, such as the Apocalypse Dark Horse Ford Bronco 6x6 , this Phantom 6x6 is easily the most insane we've seen so far. The conversion was done by Danton Arts Kustoms. In order to extend the length of the Phantom, the French company had to chop off the car from the rear door, use a 2005 BMW 7 Series's body as the extension, and also use the 7er's rear axle … [Read more...] about Rolls-Royce Phantom 6×6 Conversion Proves The World Has Gone Mad
BMW M Promises The Manual Transmission Will Live On
Listen to this article Despite the market trend and evidently dwindling sales of the manual, BMW M is going against the grain and promises that it's keeping the manual transmission alive. That's according to BMW M chief Frank van Meel, as reported by the UK's Autocar . The BMW M boss cited the demand for the stick shift based on the orders for the M2. According to van Meel, 50 percent of the M2 orders are for the manual, which makes the company determined to keep it alive for as long as possible despite the disadvantages the row-your-own transmission comes with. Gallery: 2023 BMW M2 Prototype: First Drive 124 Photos "From a technical viewpoint, there's little reason to save it. It’s heavier, it's slower and you get worse fuel consumption than the alternative. But the customer and the fanbase really love the manual. It gives a connection to allow them to … [Read more...] about BMW M Promises The Manual Transmission Will Live On

Loeb explains battery problem that caused WRC Safari Rally exit
Listen to this article The nine-time world champion had rejoined M-Sport for the famous WRC event, 20 years on from his Safari Rally debut in 2002, to make his third start of the 2022 WRC campaign. After ending Thursday’s opening stage in fifth, Loeb started Friday by winning Stage 2 and went on to complete the morning loop of challenging gravel stages in fifth overall, 15.9s adrift of rally leader Elfyn Evans . However, once the 48-year-old completed Stage 4 the engine on his hybrid Rally1 Ford Puma cut out, before a small fire broke out in the engine bay that co-driver Isabelle Galmiche promptly extinguished. With the engine out of action, Loeb engaged electric power to navigate the road section back to the service park, but ran out of battery power and was forced to pull over five kilometres shy of service. Loeb said there was no warning of the engine issue before it struck. “We were going normally, we went to the stop control and the engine stopped,” Loeb told … [Read more...] about Loeb explains battery problem that caused WRC Safari Rally exit
Greensmith angry by lack of marshal assistance after WRC Safari roll
Listen to this article The M-Sport driver rolled his Puma onto its side after getting caught in a rut on a slow right-hander during Stage 8 on Saturday morning. Greensmith and co-driver Jonas Andersson were trapped inside the car for three minutes with safety marshals in sight of the incident. As a result, Greensmith was forced to kick the windscreen out and to allow himself and Andersson to crawl out of the vehicle. Greensmith was keen to extricate the car quickly after seeing Oliver Solberg’s Hyundai quickly catch fire from a hot exhaust following a crash in Rally Croatia in April. A video has since emerged on social media showing Greensmith clearly irate at officials at the scene of the crash. “We were just driving trying to finish the rally,” Greensmith said. “We came into a long right that tightens into a medium right and it had some ruts in it. “It was the same as last year and I still had the caution in the notes, but it lifted from the rear and I … [Read more...] about Greensmith angry by lack of marshal assistance after WRC Safari roll
Newey recalls how op came with chance of brain damage
Red Bull chief technical officer Adrian Newey has detailed how he turned down an operation after fracturing his skull in a cycling accident last year, after doctors said there was a small chance of him getting brain damage during the procedure. Newey suffered serious injuries after plunging six feet off a cycle path a night while with wife Amanda, suffering multiple skull fractures combined with chipping a bone above his eye muscle after hitting his head on a stony beach. Amanda described towards the end of last year about how “miraculous” his recovery was, but the Red Bull technical boss decided to press on with the job at hand after taking time off to recuperate. “No, I’m sufficiently pig-headed that it didn’t change much,” Newey told the Evening Standard when asked if easing his workload crossed his mind in the aftermath of his incident. He had a round of craniotomy surgery to repair the damage to his skull – returning to the pit wall virtually just 10 days later – … [Read more...] about Newey recalls how op came with chance of brain damage
