There is a significantly different look on the calendar that remains made up of 17 events, along with the additional $1 Million Challenge non-points exhibition at The Thermal Club on 24 March. The changes include Texas Motor Speedway being dropped from the schedule, ending an annual trip that dates back to 1997. That loss won’t see a downsize in oval events, though, as the series returns to Milwaukee for the first time since 2015, with the venue hosting a double-header as the penultimate round on Labor Day weekend. “There is such a great tradition and history of IndyCar racing at the Milwaukee Mile, and we are excited to build on that legacy with a Labor Day-weekend NTT IndyCar Series double-header beginning in 2024,” said Roger Penske, chairman of Penske Corporation. “We appreciate all the loyal and passionate IndyCar fans in Milwaukee and across the state of Wisconsin, and thanks to our partnership with the Wisconsin State Fair Park, we can’t wait to return to the Mile next … [Read more...] about IndyCar reveals 2024 schedule as Milwaukee Mile returns

Askew hopeful ECR test leads to IndyCar return
The 26-year-old Florida-born American Swede hasn’t competed in North America’s premier open wheel championship since 2021 but could be poised for a return to the grid in 2024. Askew , along with newly crowned Indy NXT champion Christian Rasmussen, are both testing with ECR at the 2.3-mile, 17-turn natural terrain road course. And the aim is to use the opportunity to springboard into the team’s No. 20 Chevrolet entry alongside Rinus VeeKay for next year. “There's nothing that would make me happier than a redo at what meant the world to me -- and what still does -- in IndyCar,” Askew told Motorsport.com. “I really want to go back and cause some mischief.” The outing for Askew comes 729 days since his last IndyCar start, which came in the season finale on the Streets of Long Beach Sept. 26, 2021. Has IndyCar’s Texas loss come at the right time?
The writing had been on the wall for several years, but the inevitable separation of the IndyCar Series and Texas Motor Speedway finally came with the arrival of the 2024 schedule. A relationship that began in 1997, the two transitioned through nearly every phase possible in the best and worst ways. The reality, though, is that things have been turbulent for an extended amount of time and both parties are at fault for its failure. In many ways, it’s fitting how everything started – with four-time Indianapolis 500 winner and Texas native AJ Foyt backhanding Arie Luyendyk in Victory Lane after the inaugural event in 1997. Factor in timing and scoring issues that delayed final results until the next day and it also signaled the end of the United States Auto Club’s involvement in the championship. When the series needed to bolster its schedule in the early days and an ideal market to crown a champion, the 1.5-mile superspeedway stepped up and hosted races in summer and fall from … [Read more...] about Has IndyCar’s Texas loss come at the right time?
IndyCar 2024 calendar: Where will the ever-popular US series race next year?
The 2024 IndyCar calendar has been announced, with a couple of changes for fans to expect from next season – including the return of a fan-favourite oval. The popular Milwaukee Mile returns to the calendar for two races in 2024, with the Indianapolis 500 set to take its usual late-May slot in its 108th running. Who are this weekend’s four F1 newcomers – and could any be on the 2023 grid?
Four Formula 1 teams have chosen to replace one of their standard drivers with a ‘young driver’ for the first practice session at this weekend’s United States Grand Prix. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free A new-for-2022 regulation requires all teams to give up two practice sessions across the season to drivers with less than three F1 starts to their name. Both cars must be used for this purpose, rather than the same driver being replaced in both sessions. Every team bar Alpine has now run a ‘young driver’ in at least one session. They have a driver lined up who will participate in two of the three remaining events after the US GP. The Circuit of the Americas is an ideal venue to run an unfamiliar driver. It has a lot of run-off, reducing the risk of an inexperienced driver damaging a car. It is also one of the most important venues for F1 due to the scale of the event it holds and the access to the American market for media coverage and sponsorship that … [Read more...] about Who are this weekend’s four F1 newcomers – and could any be on the 2023 grid?
Milwaukee returns, Texas axed as IndyCar reveals 17-race 2024 calendar
IndyCar has finalised its calendar for the 2024 season including a return to the historic Milwaukee Mile oval. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free The 120-year-old venue will hold a double-header round ahead of the season finale. As previously announced, that will relocate from Laguna Seca to Nashville’s street circuit, which is being remodelled for its fourth year as an IndyCar venue. With the number of points-paying races remaining unchanged, two events have been dropped as IndyCar returns to Milwaukee for the first time since 2015. Texas Motor Speedway has lost its place on the calendar, as has the second of two races on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. St Petersburg will open the season as usual. A six-week gap until the next round will be interrupted by a new, non-championship race at The Thermal Club in California, a venue which has never previously hosted races for such a high-level series. The Thermal Club $1 Million Challenge will take … [Read more...] about Milwaukee returns, Texas axed as IndyCar reveals 17-race 2024 calendar
Indy NXT grad Simpson’s path to CGR seat aided by sports car experience
The Barbados-born Caymanian was signed as a development driver with CGR in May 2022, only two races into his Indy NXT career that already featured a fifth-place finish (Barber Motorsports Park). He ended up finishing his rookie campaign ninth in the overall standings despite switching teams – TJ Speed Motorsports to HMD Motorsports – mid-season. There were already some flashes of potential shown the year prior as Simpson rolled to seven wins, 13 podiums and two poles en route to winning the 2021 Formula Regional Americas Championship. Fast forward to the conclusion of the 2023 Indy NXT season, the 18-year-old’s record included a career-best runner-up result (Mid-Ohio), an additional podium and a pole to finish 10th in the championship standings after competing in 13 of 14 events. The lone event missed, the 1.25-mile oval formerly known as Gateway, was a result of a schedule conflict with his full-time commitment to the European Le Mans Series. He currently sits second in the … [Read more...] about Indy NXT grad Simpson’s path to CGR seat aided by sports car experience
McLaren using new technology to change sponsor logos on car in real-time
McLaren has claimed a first by introducing new technology which will allow the team to change the branding on its car during a race weekend. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free The system will be debuted at this weekend’s United States Grand Prix and used until the end of the season, though in Friday practice sessions only. Two display units will be positioned around the cockpits of their MCL36s. Images issued by the team indicate they will be either side of the driver. McLaren’s executive director for brand and marketing, Louise Evans, described it as “one of the most exciting innovations in digital advertising technology.” The team expects it will allow them to give more flexible branding options to its partners. “Being able to rotate different brands on our cars is a game-changer in this space and we are looking forward to seeing the impact this has on the wider industry,” Evans added. The team is looking into using the system for its other racing … [Read more...] about McLaren using new technology to change sponsor logos on car in real-time
