F1 issues update on Canadian Grand Prix as wildfires rage across Quebec

June 8, 2023 by www.planetf1.com Leave a Comment

Formula 1 has stated that the Canadian Grand Prix is “not at risk” of being cancelled, with around 150 wildfires currently burning across Quebec. The smoke across the region spread as far as New York City on Thursday morning, with residents there told to wear masks because of the poor air quality and visibility believed to not even stretch across the Hudson River, which separates two sides of the city. Conditions remain dangerous across multiple areas on the East Coast in North America, but Montreal is not believed to be one of them at this time, though a change of wind direction could still affect Montreal at a later date. Following talks with F1’s Incident Management Group, Canadian Grand Prix organisers and local government officials assured Formula 1 that air quality in the area is good and the race can currently go ahead as planned. A spokesperson from Formula 1 said of the current state of the Canadian Grand Prix: “The event is not at risk, and we have been assured by … [Read more...] about F1 issues update on Canadian Grand Prix as wildfires rage across Quebec

Sebastian Vettel wins the Canadian Grand Prix · RaceFans

June 9, 2013 by www.racefans.net Leave a Comment

Sebastian Vettel claimed his third win of 2013 in the Canadian Grand Prix. Vettel held his advantage from pole position and pulled out a lead that never looked threatened despite a brush with the wall and an off-track moment at the first corner. Fernando Alonso spent the race working his way up to second, passing Lewis Hamilton in the final stint. Hamilton lost time lapping the Force India of Adrian Sutil, who was given a drive-through penalty for not moving over quickly enough. He wasn’t the only driver being frustrated by traffic. Mark Webber tangled with Giedo van der Garde at the hairpin, breaking the Red Bull’s front wing and leading to Van der Garde receiving a ten-second stop-go penalty. Nico Rosberg was the only other driver to finish on the lead lead lap as Vettel put everyone up to sixth-placed Jean-Eric Vergne a lap down. Next was Paul di Resta , who made a single pit stop on his way to seventh, a fine recovery after being eliminated in Q1 yesterday. … [Read more...] about Sebastian Vettel wins the Canadian Grand Prix · RaceFans

Lewis Hamilton reveals controversial take on an unloved F1 circuit

June 8, 2023 by www.planetf1.com Leave a Comment

Lewis Hamilton wants to see Formula 1 stick around in Barcelona, as Madrid has been linked with a possible Grand Prix. Hamilton has stood up for the future of racing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, as Madrid has been linked as a possible venue for a future Grand Prix. Madrid is currently playing host to the F1 Exhibition, with the Ifema venue acting as a central hub for a potential street circuit around the Spanish city. While Barcelona holds a contract with F1 through until 2026, its future appeared shaky in recent years despite its longevity on the calendar. The Circuit de Catalunya was first used in Formula 1 in 1991, and has become a key testing venue as well as hosting its annual Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton is eager to see Formula 1 stay around in Barcelona, citing it as a ‘classic circuit’. When asked about the possibility of Madrid replacing Barcelona, Hamilton poked fun at the last Spanish city to be introduced to the calendar. “As long as it’s not like … [Read more...] about Lewis Hamilton reveals controversial take on an unloved F1 circuit

Sutil’s criticises ‘inconsistent FIA’ after penalty · RaceFans

June 9, 2013 by www.racefans.net Leave a Comment

Adrian Sutil criticised the decision of the FIA stewards to hand him a drive-through penalty during the Canadian Grand Prix. Sutil was penalised for failing to respond to blue flags when he was being lapped by Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso in the latter stages of the race. “Quite disappointing with the drive-though,” Sutil said afterwards. “I was just racing Raikkonen, I was trying to push on. I gave them the straight to pass me, that’s where Hamilton overtook me then with the DRS as well.” “So I thought, ‘OK’, they were one lap behind me but that’s usual in this kind of circuit. I spent many laps behind lapped cars until I got past. “It’s just so inconsistent decision all the time by the FIA. it’s something I don’t understand.” His team agreed with his view of the penalty, telling him on the radio after the race it was “harsh”. The stewards ruled Sutil had ignored blue flags from turn three to turn thirteen. Sutil’s problems began when he tangled with Valtteri … [Read more...] about Sutil’s criticises ‘inconsistent FIA’ after penalty · RaceFans

Van der Garde penalised for Hulkenberg clash · RaceFans

June 9, 2013 by www.racefans.net Leave a Comment

Giedo van der Garde has been handed a five-place grid position penalty for the British Grand Prix. He received the penalty following his collision with Nico Hulkenberg which ended both of their races. The stewards ruled Van der Garde had been too slow to respond to blue flags instructing him to let the Sauber past. Van der Garde was shown blue flags for a full lap and Hulkenberg had to use his DRS and KERS to get alongside the Caterham at the final corner. The pair then collided, damaging Van der Garde’s front wing and Hulkenberg’s suspension. Both retired. “It?s disappointing to finish a race like this,” said Hulkenberg. “Lapping can be troublesome, but these guys are racing too and have things happenings in the race, the same as us.” “I lapped Giedo van der Garde and braked. At first I didn?t feel anything until I came out of the corner and realised the car wasn?t going straight, so we decided to stop.” It is the second penalty Van der Garde received … [Read more...] about Van der Garde penalised for Hulkenberg clash · RaceFans
