Candice Choi Associated Press Published 12:53 PM EDT Sep 9, 2019 New York – Americans are addicted to snacks, and food experts are paying closer attention to what that might mean for health and obesity. Eating habits in the U.S. have changed significantly in recent decades, and packaged bars, chips and sweets have spread into every corner of life. In the late 1970s, about 40 percent of American adults said they didn’t have any snacks during the day. By 2007, that figure was just 10 percent. To get a better handle on the implications of differing eating patterns, U.S. health officials are reviewing scientific research on how eating frequency impacts health, including weight gain and obesity. The analysis is intended to gauge the broader spectrum of possibilities, including fasting. But snacking, grazing and “mini meals” are likely to be among the factors considered, given how they have upended the three-meals-a-day model. Jalopnik Reviews All of our test drives in one convenient place. It’s easy to get enamored with the Jaguar F-Type SVR’s deadly-beautiful design. Wrestling with the car’s complex personality and 575 horsepower is a far greater challenge. But the SVR’s learning curve is perfectly graded to be fearsome and fun at once, and that’s what really makes this machine special. (Full disclosure: I begged Jaguar’s people to loan me the meanest F-Type. They obliged, and let me put 500 miles on it.) The F-Type’s gorgeous shape has graduated from refreshingly striking to gracefully aged since its 2012 debut. The ultra-fast SVR version’s wing, carbon fiber treatments and titanium exhaust significantly disrupt the car’s sleek serenity for better or worse. But there’s certainly no mistaking the most hardcore F-Type model for anything less. I loved every minute of driving the more modest, V6, rear-drive manual-shift F-Type S and was actually … [Read more...] about The 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR Is A Mean Masterpiece
For a quality conversation between a human and a machine, responses have to be quick, intelligent and natural-sounding. But up to now, developers of language-processing neural networks that power real-time speech applications have faced an unfortunate trade-off: Be quick and you sacrifice the quality of the response; craft an intelligent response and you’re too slow. That’s because human conversation is incredibly complex. Every statement builds on shared context and previous interactions. From inside jokes to cultural references and wordplay, humans speak in highly nuanced ways without skipping a beat. Each response follows the last, almost instantly. Friends anticipate what the other will say before words even get uttered. What Is Conversational AI? True conversational AI is a voice assistant that can engage in human-like dialogue, capturing context and providing intelligent responses. Such AI models must be massive and highly complex. But the larger a model is, the … [Read more...] about What Is Conversational AI?

And why is it so important for Muslims? Ramadan is the ninth and holiest month of the year in the Muslim calendar. It is when an angel revealed to the prophet Mohamed the first verses of what would become the Quran.People observing Ramadan don't eat or drink from sunrise until sunset to focus more on spiritual needs. This abstinence also includes not smoking and not engaging in sexual activity.A day during Ramadan for Muslims begins with a big pre-dawn meal full of healthy food to get them through the day. They then perform the day's first prayer before sunrise. At the same time as fasting, Muslims are to go about their normal day to school or work. ByJohn Leland Photographs byGretchen Grace March 7, 2019 The color red, Gretchen Grace said, is catnip for street photographers. “It’s just low-hanging fruit,” she said. “It’s like the default alert. It’s the strongest color, the one that gets your attention.” New York’s colors are like the city’s architecture: random, cacophonous, equal parts ego and vision, ornaments for a city that throbs in black and white. Amid the chromatic din, red makes a statement. “The afternoon light just makes it electric,” Ms. Grace said. “When … [Read more...] about ‘What Is That?’ Seeing the City as Abstract Art
