Just when you thought the AMG GT R couldn’t get any meaner... The Mercedes-AMG GT can be had in a few different flavors. The standard offering is the GT Coupe, which pumps out a respectable 469 horsepower (349 kilowatts). Somewhere in the middle of the lineup is the GT C , which is a bit more performance-oriented and produces 550 hp (410 kW). At the top of the range is the track-ready GT R, which churns out a hefty 577 hp (430 kW). There’s even a new four-door GT . But even with all those options, one German tuning shop thinks the AMG GT could use more power. Renntech now offers an upgrade package for the AMG GT R that delivers anywhere from 612 to 825 hp (456 to 615 kW), depending on the trim. The latter of the two options is dubbed the AMG GT R825, and along with more horsepower, adds a whopping 626 pound-feet (850 Newton-meters) of torque to the equation. If you really want the big kidneys, they're still available. Aftermarket shops are not wasting any time as they're already preparing an array of custom bits for the new BMW M3 and M4. Avante Design decided to focus on the two-door model by developing a full widebody package to give the coupe a much more aggressive stance. The love/hate front grille is still there, but it's joined by a second design proposal bringing back the normal-size kidneys. While these are only official renderings for the time being, Avante Design has told us development work is almost done and the widebody package will be produced in limited examples. This is the little hatchback's second COTY triumph. The new Toyota Yaris was named European Car of the Year for 2021 . The Japanese hatchback took the crown leaving behind models such as the Fiat 500, Cupra Formentor, Volkswagen ID.3, Skoda Octavia, Land Rover Defender, and Citröen C4. Just like every year, this year’s ECOTY ceremony was scheduled to be held during the Geneva Motor Show . The show was canceled for 2021 though, and the organizers had to run the event at the same location (Palexpo in Geneva) and broadcast it worldwide. In January this year, the Toyota Yaris was announced as a finalist in the competition, together with six other cars from different categories. In order to be eligible to participate in the contest, a model has to be new and on sale now or before the year’s end in five or more European markets.
