Ford moved more than 900,000 F-series pickup trucks in the U.S. last year, and even before you begin factoring in the hundreds of thousands of GM and Ram trucks also sold, that makes it pretty clear America is crazy about trucks. But until only very recently, most of the newest and best options were full-size models. What about smaller pickups? We’re willing to bet many full-size buyers—and particularly those of the F-series—are former owners of the old Ford Ranger, which was discontinued in late 2011 but sold more than 350,000 examples annually at its peak. Now the Ranger is back—more specifically an updated version of the model available globally since 2011—to contest the hot mid-size truck segment that includes the Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, and the bestselling Toyota Tacoma, which alone saw its sales leap by nearly 25 percent in 2018. I know our opinion of Ford’s newest truck, but I wondered what today’s truck shoppers think, so I took … [Read more...] about What Do Real People Think of the New 2019 Ford Ranger?
What do truck drivers need on the road
THE unfortunate reality when it comes to road travel is that accidents do happen, and sometimes people get hurt. But would you know what to do if you were first on scene at a traffic collision? While the average motorist isn't expected to have the knowledge of a paramedic or emergency doctor, it pays to have a solid understanding of basic first aid. I have a dog. When we discussed getting one, I promised my husband – a man only grudgingly accepting of my dog-ownership aspiration – that we’d get a medium-sized, low-shedding breed, as appropriate for our young daughter and pale carpets. What we actually did was rehome Ziggy, a giraffe-legged, 31kg "Labradoodle", who sheds great clouds of fur all year round. She may not, in fact, be a Labradoodle – the previous owner swears she is, but we’re not sure. Regardless, we adore her in all her over-exuberant, bearded glory, and we’ve been lucky in that she travels well in the car whether she’s in the boot with her bed, or harnessed into the rear seats. There are, of course, things to do to make your dog safer and more comfortable, so here are the golden rules. And if you want to give your opinions on what mish-mash of breeds you think my dog is, feel free to comment below. How to keep your dog properly restrained in the car This … [Read more...] about Driving with dogs: how to keep your pet safe and happy on the road

Here’s What Drivers Said after the rain-delayed conclusion of the INDYCAR Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama at Barber Motorsports Park: JOSEF NEWGARDEN (No. 1 Hitachi Team Penske Chevrolet) – WINNER: “That was more eventful than I would have liked. But everybody did a great job. How about Team Chevy today – they gave us a great engine, good fuel mileage and good reliability, and that’s what we needed to win this race. It’s great having Hitachi – we got Verizon a victory, now we got Hitachi a victory, so thank you guys. Everyone at Team Penske did a great job, but like I said, that was more eventful than I wanted it. It would seem like smooth sailing for the most part, we didn’t have any yellows, which we were hoping no yellows today, but then the rain crept in. I couldn’t believe how long everyone stayed out. It was really risky what they were doing, but I understand why there were doing it. I’m glad we made the call to come in … [Read more...] about What Drivers Said after the finish of the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama
