Australian-based Brabham Automotive, which launched last May with 2009 Le Mans winner David Brabham at the helm, is planning to be on the WEC grid in the GTE Pro class in time for the 2021/22 season. The GTE car will be based on a new road-going sportscar that will have its roots in the BT62 track day car unveiled last May on the relaunch of the marque , 26 years after the demise of the Brabham Formula 1 team. Brabham, who is managing director of the new venture, told Motorsport.com: "It is important that we return to racing, because it is in our DNA. "We told everyone when we launched back in May that we wanted to go racing and that the ultimate goal was to get to Le Mans. "There has been a lot of speculation about how we might do it, so we want to confirm the direction in which we are going — and that's GTE in time for the 2021/22 season." Brabham, son of marque co-founder Sir Jack, explained that the GTE car would be developed out of the next model produced … [Read more...] about Brabham planning WEC GTE Pro entry in 2021/22
The company wants to raise about $776,000 to build a running prototype Fledgling British electric automaker the Alcraft Motor Company hopes that a crowdfunding campaign might help get its first vehicle on the road. Simply called the GT, the design plays on the look of a classic shooting brake with two doors, a long roof, and short tailgate. The firm aims for production to start as soon as 2019. For now, the GT only exists as renderings and a 33-percent scale foam model. However, the full-size version would use three electric motors with an estimated total output of 600 horsepower (447 kilowatts) and 840 pound-feet (1,139 Newton-meters) of torque. Their arrangement would provide all-wheel drive with torque vectoring. Alcraft figures the vehicle could reach 62 miles per hour in 3.5 seconds and have a 300-mile (483-kilometer) range. The Aston Martin DB5 used in Goldfinger was believed stolen and dumped at sea – however, investigators may have finally tracked it down elsewhere… The Aston Martin DB5 driven by Sean Connery in Goldfinger , arguably the most iconic vehicle of all time, was assumed lost after criminal activity whisked the vehicle away 19 years ago. However, Aston’s pinnacle of cinematic automotive history could well be in rude health – hidden away in the Middle East, according to speculation. Frenzied talk though the grapevine accounts for a syndicate tracking down the DB5 'effects car', one of two 1964 models employed for filming the legendary 1960s spy flick, a cinematic adventure that set the tone for all future Bond movies. Thursday night’s third practice session was the only opportunity for drivers and teams to get some necessary night running in ahead of the race. Most of the session’s fastest times were set in the first half, after which many teams switched to tyre work. Deletraz hit the top of the timesheets in the first hour, setting a 3m19.158s lap in the #3 Rebellion R-13 LMP1 privateer. Toyota’s Kamui Kobayashi improved on his early lap times in the #7 Toyota TS050 Hybrid to set a 3m19.638s in the second hour, closely followed by the second Rebellion of Gustavo Menezes. Sebastien Buemi was fourth in the #8 Toyota. LMP1’s fifth and final entrant ByKolles lost a lot of track time after Bruno Spengler spanked the barrier at Tertre Rouge 90 minutes into the session, bringing out a red flag. Mercedes AMG customer teams claimed a commanding 1-2-3-4 in the 2016 Nurburgring 24-Hour race at the infamous Nordschleife that saw the closest ever finish of all 44 editions so far, too. After 24 hours and a total of 134 laps around the 25km combination of Grand Prix circuit and Nordschleife the difference between first and second was a mere 5.7 seconds. However, it was not the small gap between Maro Engel in the #4 Black Falcon Mercedes AMG GT3 and Christian Hohenadel in the #29 HTP Motorsport sister car on the finish line that left people gasp in shock, but the last-lap dare-devil move Engel pulled to make his way past Hohenadel to claim P1 and, eventually, the overall victory, too. “It’s a pity for Christian to lose the win on the last lap,” said Engel. And Hohenadel echoed these thoughts: “It’s a very bitter end to this race. Definitely not a nice experience.” But it will not stop there as Hohenadel’s team HTP Motorsport already lodged a protest against Engel’s move … [Read more...] about Nurburgring 24h: Mercedes claims historic 1-2-3-4
