Affectionately known as the Miata, Mazda’s MX-5 roadster is a throwback to an era when fun cars were simple. While its evolution included obligatory tech and safety updates, that’s about all the manufacturer added. The recipe for the spry little convertible has always been to deliver a mechanically simple, lightweight, and sporting automobile that adheres to the regulatory mandates of its era. The end result is a reasonably reliable and totally livable sports car that can be driven enthusiastically at moderate speeds, delivering a pleasurable experience for less than $26,000. It may lack the amenities and passenger occupancy of a larger automobile, but it’s better than a motorcycle — and serves a similar purpose in an infinitely more practical way. Like any sport bike, you purchase the Miata for the visceral and engaging experience it provides. You just have to pay a little more for the benefit of being able hide from mother nature while you’re flicking … [Read more...] about Zoom-Zoom: Mazda MX-5 Gets More Power and a Higher Redline for 2019
Way more power
With its 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine that pushes out 468PS (461hp / 344kW) in stock form, the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT has plenty of power to take its occupants pretty much everywhere they desire. However, as the old dictum goes, there’s no such thing as too much power. Thus, GME (German Motors & Engineering) upped the Grand Cherokee SRT’s output to a more substantial 620PS (611hp / 456kW) and 756Nm (558lb-ft) of torque. The extra muscle comes courtesy of a compressor kit and a large intercooler. The aftermarket specialist has also optimized the ECU and fuel injection system and installed a stainless steel flap exhaust system with 114mm (4.5in) tailpipes, which can be had in polished or, optionally, carbon finish. It’s now looking very likely that BMW is working a more potent version of its plug-in hybrid flagship limo. Just as we reported last year, Autocar now says the BMW 740Le iPerformance will make way for a more powerful 745e iPerformance variant, set to be introduced in 2019 as part of the LCI facelift exercise. Currently, the G12 BMW 740Le xDrive packs a 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that’s married to a plug-in hybrid electric motor. The total system output is rated at 326 PS and 500 Nm of torque. It manages the century sprint in 5.3 seconds and is claimed to have an electric-only range of 41 km (on 19-inch alloys). Now, the 745e (or the long-wheelbase 745Le) will reportedly be equipped with a more advanced motor juiced by batteries of higher energy density (a total power output of 390 hp was rumoured before). That means more power and longer electric range, possibly close to the 50 km mark. Wireless charging via BMW i’s new induction pad could also be … [Read more...] about 2019 BMW 7 Series to get more powerful 745e variant?
Tweet TweetIt would seem like the Koreans at Hyundai have been doing quite a lot of plotting lately with the crown jewel being the upcoming 2012 Genesis Coupe. After taking the Europe sales lead and thinking up a new luxury brand it seems like Hyundai really wants the performance car market and that the Velostar Turbo is just the beginning. The latest of reports speak of their most important sports car, the Hyundai Genesis Coupe, getting more muscle under the bonnet round at the same time with the 2012 update. Starting with the 2.0 liter turbocharged unit, it will develop a heck of a lot more power but we don’t know any exact figures. A good guess would be that the current offering of 210 horsepower and 223 lb-ft of torque could grow to similar figures of the Hyundai Sonata Turbo. The well received sedan has a much more meaty 274 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. This sort of performance would feel a lot better with less doors and weight wouldn’t it? In terms of V6 power, … [Read more...] about 2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe will be more powerful
Talks about a more powerful version of the i8 has been going around since we learned that the car only comes with a 1.5-liter, 3-cylinder engine. Understandably so, too, since the i8 looks like nothing else on the road today, having a design that’s both beautiful and exotic at the same time. Trying to keep this car somewhere in between efficiency and sportiness, BMW turned it into a proper hybrid from a number of perspectives. However, people are still hoping there will be an i8 S coming in the near future. The fact that BMW decided to enhance the i3 with a couple of carefully picked upgrades and bring out the i3 S also poured additional gas on the proverbial fire, spurring on those hoping for an i8 S. The chances of that happening are null according to the man in charge of the i8, Marcus Pluntke. Speaking to Car Advice at the event launching the i8 Roadster, the i8 Product Manager admitted that no “S” version will be coming out. “Customers are very happy … [Read more...] about BMW Official Shuts Down Rumors of More Powerful i8 S Model
Driving the sporty Italian take on the Mazda MX-5 The Abarth 124 Spider is a car derived from the Fiat 124 Spider, which itself is derived from the Mazda MX-5. Confused yet? It’s a bit convoluted, but all you need to know is that this is potentially the hottest, most focused version of all three, with bespoke performance development from Fiat’s in-house tuning arm. It builds on the rear-drive chassis shared by both models, and fits an even more powerful version of the 1.4-litre turbocharged engine used by Fiat (Mazda prefers non-turbo engines). There is a price to be paid for this, though – literally: the Abarth 124 Spider is the priciest version of all three models. Power is up to 168bhp, for 0-62mph in just 6.8 seconds. Once you’re past the slightly annoying initial turbo lag, the engine performs really well, and the snappy six-speed manual gearbox is also a delight – far preferable to the optional automatic. We generally like the noise it makes in … [Read more...] about Abarth 124 Spider review: more powerful, more focused, more expensive
Think scooter and the humble Honda Activa is the first thing that will probably cross your mind. However, what if we tell you that Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India is planning to launch a new scooter that will be much more powerful than the recently launched Kawasaki Ninja 400. Don’t believe us? Well, we’re really not kidding! While the new Ninja 400 offers as much as 49 PS, the upcoming Honda scooter has 55 PS on offer! For 2019, Mazda seems ready to offer two things MX-5 Miata buyers have long demanded: more power, plus a steering wheel that reaches towards the driver, instead of just tilting. These are big changes for a model where every minor detail is fussed over by engineers and enthusiasts alike. The changes are detailed in a document — apparently originating from Mazda Canada — that details the changes coming for 2019. That doc found its way onto Reddit, which was then shared by joyful members of the Miata.net forum. How does an extra 26 horsepower sound? The document, if accurate, confirms details contained within regulatory docs dug up by Bozi Tatarevic early last month, though Mazda product spokesman Jacob Brown would not comment on the vehicle’s specs, nor on a release date for the 2019 model. Besides the telescoping steering wheel — the first time Mazda has offered such a feature in the MX-5 — the model’s Skyactiv-G 2.0-liter engine … [Read more...] about 2019 Mazda MX-5: More Power and a Steering Wheel That Zooms?
2018 will be a witness to many new car launches. Like we’ve been reporting, there’s an entire range of facelifts and all-new models that are headed our way. While some of the upcoming new cars in India will be models that won’t have any sort of link with an existing version (eg. Toyota Yaris), others will be either all-new versions or facelifts of cars already sold here. Such cars will launch with more features, better looks, and in some cases, even with more power. Here, in this post, we take a look at the upcoming facelifts/new versions that will offer more power – Ford Figo Facelift Ford will soon launch the Figo facelift sometime after introducing the Freestyle C-SUV. Basically, the Freestyle is nothing but a slightly rugged version of the upcoming Figo Facelift. Both the new cars feature some visual tweaks that make current-gen Figo look more attractive. While the Freestyle even gets body-cladding, roof rails, et all for a more rugged appearance, even the … [Read more...] about 8 upcoming cars with more POWER: Swift Sport to Tiago JTP!
Tweet TweetMore and more people are getting closer and closer to the bulk yet strange enough 2015 Renault Captur, the small crossover which abounds with a lot of interesting design lines and details. But the main disadvantage of the model is that it lacks power. But the French carmaker decided to change the situation and planned to fit the Renault Captur with a more powerful diesel unit, at least for the United Kingdom market. This way, the company has recently introduced new dCi 110, which is actually the former dCi 90, while the 1.5-liter dCi with 90 horsepower will be still available. The newly introduced diesel engine will be capable of producing 110 horsepower, which is 20 horsepower and 40 Nm of torque over the previous dCi 90. This should be enough to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 11 seconds, compared to the former 13 seconds. The higher performance is also given by the stop-start technology as well as by the Eco mode, which might be considered quite efficient, since it puts … [Read more...] about 2015 Renault Captur Fitted with a More Powerful Diesel Unit in U.K
