Last year saw Rivian making serious headway in the electric vehicle space, with almost 25,000 vehicles produced (including their R1T truck , R1S SUV and Amazon delivery vans ) and over 20,000 delivered . However, Rivian’s 2023 has already been turbulent; last week, the automaker announced a new round of layoffs . On the brighter side, they also seem to have a plan to diversify their business, and it involves bikes. As Engadget reports , Rivian CEO R.J. Scaringe made the announcement to the company’s employees on Friday. Bloomberg initially broke the story , and their report on it notes that many details remain unknown, including what’s arguably the most critical of all: what kind of bike are we talking about here? Why Are Car Companies, From Porsche to Jeep, All Selling E-Bikes Now? Electric bicycles, a transportation trend, are now available from a variety of automakers There’s been a lot of movement in the world of both electric bikes and … [Read more...] about Report: Rivian Working on Some Kind of Electric Bike

Lamborghini Urus PHEV Spied In The Arctic Testing Cold Weather Capability
Not so long ago, seeing a Lamborghini in the snow was a big deal. LM002 notwithstanding, that all changed a few years back with the arrival of the Urus. The all-season Lambo is expected to perform in any climate, and that goes for the future plug-in hybrid trim level. New spy shots capture a Urus PHEV test vehicle making sure winter weather is not an issue for the electrified super SUV. And if rumors about the powertrain are correct, there shouldn't be any major surprises. Our sources believe that Lamborghini will borrow plug-in hybrid tech from Porsche , specifically the twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 and electric motor from the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid . If a Porsche engine in a Lamborghini sounds a bit sacrilegious, take heart in knowing it shouldn't be just a straight swap. Whereas Porsche offers 690 horsepower with this powertrain, Lamborghini could tweak it to make upwards of 820 hp in top trim, with a less-powerful variant making around 675 hp. Suzuki Vitara Is Fast Around The Cones In The Moose Test
The Suzuki Vitara is one of the very few subcompact crossovers that are available with a hybrid engine and all-wheel drive. In 2020, the model received new mild hybrid tech, which replaced the previous pure gasoline mill for the European market. It isn’t a very quick vehicle, obviously, but you’ll be surprised by how good the electrified Vitara is in the corners. The folks over at km77.com recently moose-tested a new Vitara equipped with that engine. The 1.4-liter mild hybrid powertrain under the hood is good for 129 horsepower (95 kilowatts) and 173 pound-feet (235 Newton-meters) of torque. As a side note, the only other subcompact crossover with all-wheel drive and a hybrid engine in Europe is the Toyota Yaris Cross . There’s also the Suzuki S-Cross , but it is slightly bigger and more expensive than the Vitara. 50 Most Expensive Cars In The World
When it comes to high-end hypercars and super-fast supercars, a few companies should come to mind first: Bugatti, Ferrari, Koenigsegg, Rimac, and Pagani, among others. The group includes hybrid Ferrari convertibles, an American speed king , a few electric Hypercars , and two a one-of-a-kind Rolls-Royce cars built for royalty. We should note, though: The prices listed here are the price of the vehicles when new. So we’re not counting auction cars like the Ferrari 250 GTO, or overpriced secondhand sales. But don’t worry, there’s still hundreds of millions worth of cars here to whet … [Read more...] about 50 Most Expensive Cars In The World

Karun Chandhok: Ford got the ‘best deal’ in what is basically a ‘badging exercise’
Karun Chandhok believes it is Ford who have got the better deal after the American car manufacturer agreed an engine partnership with Red Bull. Following weeks of speculation, Red Bull confirmed they had partnered with Ford for their power unit department with the newly created subdivision being rebranded to Red Bull Ford Powertrains. Following Honda’s withdrawal for the sport at the end of 2021, although the Japanese manufacturer has since reversed that decision, Red Bull took the bold step of taking everything in house. They began constructing a new factory at their Milton Keynes base and in 2022, the RB18 was powered by Red Bull Powertrains. Although that fact comes with a pretty large asterisk as Honda were still on hand to provide assistance in 2022 with Christian Horner predicting it will not be until midway through 2023 that the first engine entirely built in Milton Keynes will be in a Red Bull car. Red Bull Powertrains will be one of the confirmed six power unit … [Read more...] about Karun Chandhok: Ford got the ‘best deal’ in what is basically a ‘badging exercise’
