Volkswagen will soon unveil the all-new T-Cross compact SUV, a Hyundai Creta rival. The Volkswagen T-Cross will first go on sale internationally, and it won’t be until 2020 or early 2021 when the SUV is launched in India. The German automaker has released an official video that shows the T-Cross wearing some floral camouflage wraps. Except for the finer design details, the T-Cross SUV has nearly been fully revealed through the latest video. The T-Cross that will be sold in Europe and other developed markets of the world will be based on the Volkswagen MQB platform. For India though, the compact SUV that Volkswagen will launch is expected to use the MQB A0 platform. The compact SUV for the Indian market is expected to derive design details from the global T-Cross but there will be significant changes in terms of the interiors, engines and even the overall length of the SUV sold here. Skoda has been working on the low cost MQB A0 platform, and will also launch a compact SUV that … [Read more...] about Hyundai Creta-challenging Volkswagen T-Cross compact SUV: First official video released

Volkswagen Atlas Tanoak revealed in New York
Volkswagen has revealed an MQB-based pickup concept in New York, in the form of the (stunning) Atlas Tanoak. Named after a species of tree native to the Pacific Coast of North America, the dual-cab pickup is 5438mm long, 2030mm wide and 1844mm tall, with a cargo tray measuring 1627mm x 1450mm x 530mm. Ground clearance is a handy 250mm, an increase of 5cm over the standard Atlas SUV. Our very own Amarok measures 5254mm long and 1944mm wide, for the sake of comparison. Volkswagen says the Tanoak a mid-size truck in North America, designed to carry bikes, boards or smaller boats. With the tailgate open, there’s room for dirt bikes as well. To that end, the car has a special cargo bracket in the bed, which can be raised to make carrying canoes or larger bits of outdoor equipment easier. Think of them like smarter, more capable roof racks or sports bars. In a cheeky swipe at the Honda Ridgeline, which has its spare wheel under the floor of the bed, Volkswagen notes the car’s … [Read more...] about Volkswagen Atlas Tanoak revealed in New York
Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport Concept: A Serious Contender?
In some ways, VW’s Atlas Cross Sport Concept is just that: A concept vehicle at an auto show loaded with gee-wiz features. In a lot of other ways, this is just VW’s latest SUV. But the real key to the Atlas Cross Sport Concept can be found in the press materials when VW says, “Atlas five-seater shows that Volkswagen has a serious SUV strategy.” In other words, “take our SUVs seriously.” Well, should we take the Atlas Cross Sport Concept seriously? Up To Speed For those out of the loop, the quick sketch is that SUVs are a big deal. People want them, for a number of reasons you don’t have to be Sigmund Freud to really figure out. And car makers want to sell them, because the profit margins are higher than traditional cars. So, bottom line: Everybody wants in on the SUV game. And Volkswagen is kind of late to the party. So, their Atlas Cross Sport Concept has to hit all the right notes and make an impression. The Atlas Cross Sport Concept sits … [Read more...] about Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport Concept: A Serious Contender?
2018 New York Auto Show: Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport Concept
Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport Concept Test Drive: 2018 Volkswagen Atlas V6 SEL The Atlas Cross Sport is essentially a shortened version of Volkswagen’s seven-passenger Atlas SUV, which went on sale last year as a 2018 model. Both vehicles are built on Volkswagen’s versatile MQB platform, but the Cross Sport is 7.5 inches shorter overall on the same 117.3-inch wheelbase as the Atlas. The Atlas Cross Sport Concept is clearly intended to be a sportier vehicle than the 7-passenger Atlas, as evidenced by its “coupe-like” profile with a sharply sloped rear hatch, aggressively styled front and rear fasciae, and beefy 22-inch aluminum wheels. The concept’s powertrain also backs up the high-performance looks—it uses the production Atlas’s 276-hp 3.6-liter V6, but pairs it with a plug-in hybrid system with an 18.0 kWh battery and dual electric motors, for a total output of 355 hp. VW says this powertrain has an all-electric driving range of 26 miles and … [Read more...] about 2018 New York Auto Show: Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport Concept
Volkswagen Atlas
Volkswagen has officially revealed its brand-new, seven-seater SUV – the Atlas, an important model for the American market where a tenth of all new registrations in the United States in 2015 are mid-size SUVs. The new model slots in between the Tiguan and the Touareg, and is claimed to be “fully tailored to American needs.” If you think you’re looking at the automaker’s CrossBlue Concept from 2013, we won’t blame you. The Atlas looks nearly identical to the concept that previewed it, with several changes introduced. For starters, the front fascia has an Amarok-inspired grille between a pair of standard LED headlamps with signature DRLs. Below that, the lower apron has been tweaked to incorporate a pair of fog lamps, along with a grey skid plate. Progressing towards the rear, you’ll also noticed that the third window near the D-pillar has a more pronounced kink than on the concept. The muscular lines that flow over the wheel arches are carried … [Read more...] about Volkswagen Atlas
