August 19, 2022 by www.autosport.com Leave a Comment

The Mercedes-AMG factory driver won the DTM’s first title of its new GT3 era last year for the HRT outfit before switching to Winward Racing for this season. But from grids averaging at 20.3 cars last season, grid sizes this year have increased to an average of 28.25 cars per round, with the addition of factory drivers from Lamborghini and Porsche and returning three-time DTM champion Rene Rast raising the bar. Only Schubert BMW racer Sheldon van der Linde has won more than once, and a different driver has been on pole for all eight races so far. Lamborghini is the only brand yet to win a race, although Grasser Racing’s Mirko Bortolotti heads the standings. Gotz produced his best weekend of the season last time out at the Norisring with a brace of sixth-places and sits 16th in the points at the halfway point of the season. Speaking to Autosport prior to the Norisring weekend, the 36-year-old said: “The start of the season was not easy. “I think generally the DTM … [Read more...] about Drivers have to be "more on point" in "closer" 2022 DTM fight – Gotz

Sandown Supercars: Davison sets early practice pace

August 19, 2022 by www.motorsport.com Leave a Comment

Listen to this article The Dick Johnson Racing driver had several stints on top of the times throughout the half-hour sessions, including right at the start when the times were still in the 1m09s bracket. Having been shuffled down the order he then rocketed back to the top with a little over 10 minutes to go with a 1m08.147s. Five minutes later Davison was pipped by Shane van Gisbergen, the Kiwi going one thousandth of a second faster. But Davison was able to hit back on a final green tyre run, becoming the first driver into the sevens for the weekend with a 1m07.808s. Chaz Mostert ended up second fastest with a 1m08.027s on his final run, which put him between the DJR cars, with Anton De Pasquale third. Mark Winterbottom was another late improver as he jumped up to fourth, while van Gisbergen was shuffled back to fifth. Brodie Kostecki was sixth fastest ahead of David Reynolds, Will Brown and Macauley Jones. Practice continues with a half-hour session dedicated … [Read more...] about Sandown Supercars: Davison sets early practice pace

Supercars enduro format “incredibly unfair” – Tander

August 19, 2022 by www.motorsport.com Leave a Comment

Listen to this article The Supercars champion unloaded on the current enduro schedule, which features just one two-driver, long-distance race – the Bathurst 1000. During the modern Supercars era there has mostly been three events that made up the Season of Endurance. They were a 500-kilometre race, traditionally at Sandown, in the lead-up to Bathurst, the Bathurst 1000, and then the Gold Coast street race. However during the COVID era that was scaled back to cut costs, with the Bathurst 1000 the only race to survive the enduro cull. That has significantly cut down the amount of laps co-drivers get during the year, with running now limited to team test days (of which only three are allowed), sponsor ride days, a half-hour practice session at the Sandown SuperSprint, and then the official practice sessions for the Bathurst 1000. That has put a premium on experience when it comes to co-driver choice. According to Tander the lack of running has widened the gap … [Read more...] about Supercars enduro format “incredibly unfair” – Tander
