Despite the 2020 Volkswagen Golf arriving later this year, VW hasn’t done much to tease it. In fact, the only glimpses we’ve had of it were of the Sasquatch variety — unconfirmed, low-resolution images taken in the wild before the elusive creature vanishes. There’s now another one. Last week, Instagram user johannes.vag captured a couple of photos of what appears to be a black 8th-generation Golf stopping at a McDonald’s drive-thru in Germany. While it could be a fake, we’ve seen videos of a similar-looking model crop up in South Africa. That, in addition to the Mk8 Golf’s June assembly date and a few preliminary sketches from the automaker, gives us reason to believe this is probably the real deal and not a tasteful aftermarket job. The size and shape of the snapped model would appear to make the 2020 Golf slightly larger than its predecessors, while the slimmer headlamps match VW’s newer models. Most of the … [Read more...] about 2020 Volkswagen Golf Spotted at German McDonalds?

It’s well into winter season in some parts of the world, and our spy photographers have caught the B8 Volkswagen Passat facelift frolicking in the snow. The revised big sedan has been spotted before, but with the headlights on we’re getting some clearer view of some of the changes. Those changes, it seems, are relatively minor, with the LED daytime running light strips, which currently sit along the lower edge of the headlights, are now arranged at the top, eyebrow style. Also relocated in a similar fashion are the indicators on the tail lights, which themselves get L-shaped graphics. Elsewhere, the bumpers appear to be from an R-Line model, as they get a sportier design than in prior spyshots. At the front, there are prominent C-shaped trim pieces that frame the bone-shaped full-width air intake, with another inlet below it. Moving to the rear, the diffuser has been reshaped, and there also appear to be twin fake exhaust outlets, similar to the Golf R-Line. Set to be … [Read more...] about SPYSHOTS: B8 Volkswagen Passat facelift – R-Line?
The current Volkswagen Golf R is a legend in its own lifetime. Many previous versions of fast, four-wheel-drive Golfs might have had seemingly more exotic V6 motors, but it’s the 2014, Mk7 generation with its 296bhp, 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that really proved how spectacular the hottest Golf could be. Priced at around £30,000 when new, many used examples of the Golf R are now into half price hot hatch territory. There are plenty to choose from, too, thanks in part to some very tempting PCP deals during the first couple of years the car was on sale. Further cause for its success was the fact it is not only fast, but also comfortable, spacious, frugal (you’ll see 30mpg on a long run if you’re careful) and easy to drive when you want it to be, as well as being available with a slick-shifting, six-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic or a more hands-on manual gearbox. Alongside the five-door hatchback, there’s also a three-door model and, since … [Read more...] about Daily coverage of the world of cars. Top of the Line Golf Offers Benchmark Performance & Outstanding Economy The updated 2018 Volkswagen Golf R offers benchmark, performance, handling and economy in a thoroughly modern five-door hatchback package. The Golf R builds on the features and performance of its sibling, the GTI, and dials it up, not to the extreme, but instead adds refinement and strength. It does it in a way that is familiar to Golf aficionados, but does not embrace a wild and wooly personality. 4 pipes, no waiting The Golf R uses the same MQB platform that can be found underpinning every Golf, Jetta, Alltrack, Atlas and Tiguan today. Volkswagen’s GTI is great, but as today’s Nice Price or Crack Pipe R32 proves, sometimes more is better. Will have to see if the over the top nature of this hot hatch includes its price. Are you ready to have fun? I said: ARE YOU READY TO HAVE FUN? No? Okay, just asking. For those who are looking for a good time you needn’t look much farther than yesterday’s crazy 1969 Ford Cortina wagon and maybe the parts counter at your nearest Pep Boys. Sporting a Mazda mill and looking like something sketched in a 7th grader’s history notebook, not even an unfinished nature could stop the Cortina’s modest $3,500 price from earning favor, and it carted home a narrow but decisive 56-percent Nice Price win. Yesterday’s Ford represented one kind of fun, the sort that paid homage to youthful drollery. It was sort of a fart joke with wheels. What to do however, should your aspirations for entertainment demand a more mature approach? Might you eschew … [Read more...] about At $8,750, Could This 2004 VW R32 Be Your Golf With Balls?
