What an ice-cold run from the hot Urus. Top speed runs aren't an easy feat. Needless to say, the persons behind the wheel of these record-setting runs need ice-cold veins in order to stay focused as they approach inhumane speeds. For the Lamborghini Urus , this came quite literally with the vehicle's latest feat in Russia. In an event organized by LAV-racing company, Lamborghini has set a speed record on ice, marking 298 kilometers per hour (185 miles per hour). It could be previewed this year through a final version of the Aventador. We're going to be brutally honest and admit we've lost count of how many Aventador versions Lamborghini has churned out in the last decade. The Murcielago's replacement came out in 2011, and while supercars don't usually follow the industry norm of a seven-year product life cycle, the mid-engined beast from Sant'Agata Bolognese is getting a bit long in the tooth. Not to worry as a replacement is finally coming according to a new report published by Autocar . The British magazine claims one of the two V12 models already confirmed by Lamborghini to debut later this year will effectively preview the Aventador successor scheduled for 2022. That would make sense considering the Reventon launched towards the end of 2007 ended up as a sneak preview of the Aventador. Too bad we won't see it until at least 2023. A new Lamborghini sports car has been on the docket for a number of years now, but only recently have rumors begun to circulate surrounding the build. Already we know that it will use a new modular platform , and now we’re hearing that it could draw its inspiration from Lamborghini models of yore, like the Countach and Miura. According to the Australian publication CarAdvice , Lamborghini will reportedly introduce a fourth model to the lineup after the debut of the Urus SUV , sometime in 2023. In doing so, the company will draw inspiration from past models, though it's still unclear whether this new model will undercut the Huracan, or be positioned elsewhere in the lineup. America is the brand's biggest market. Lamborghini is the next exotic automaker to announce a sales record in 2016 after Rolls-Royce and McLaren did the same. The Sant’Agata Bolognese-based supercar manufacturer is reporting an increase of seven percent to a total of 3,457 units globally compared to 3,245 in 2015. This is the first time Lamborghini surpassed the 3,400 units mark following six years of continuous growth. The current result is 2.6 times better than the one in 2010. “In 2016 Lamborghini has proven to be in excellent shape,” Stefano Domenicali, chairman and chief executive officer of Lamborghini, declared. “The company delivered another record year in terms of sales and continued to outperform key business objectives. This new all-time high is once more confirming the substance and sustainability of our brand, product and commercial strategy. This is a real team achievement and it is all the more remarkable as we are at the same time preparing not … [Read more...] about Lamborghini sets global sales record in 2016
