Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 5 The CIA Museum covers the intelligence agency's long history - from spying on the Soviets to the Argo mission in Iran - but the latest addition is practically ripped from the headlines: a model of Ayman al-Zawahiri's compound in Kabul used weeks earlier to plan the U.S. drone strike that killed the al-Qaeda leader. The model is part of the newly renovated exhibition hall located deep inside CIA headquarters in Langley, Va. Like the NSA's Wall of Spies museum in Bethesda, Md., the CIA Museum isn't open to the public. But it's not exactly top secret either, welcoming CIA employees, official guests, foreign partners, potential recruits - and, early on a Saturday morning, a handful of carefully observed reporters with old-school notepads and pens (electronics are banned). There are plenty of fun gadgets to see, like a polygraph machine in a briefcase and a communication … [Read more...] about The CIA renovated its museum. The public still can’t go see it.

Zak Brown has said Formula 1 is already popular in the States even without an F1 driver or a team solely based in the country. Formula 1 has enjoyed a huge boost in popularity in the United States of late with new owners Liberty Media seemingly targeting that demographic. A record three races will take place on American soil in 2023 with the Las Vegas Grand Prix set to follow the Miami Grand Prix onto the calendar. But still, there remains a lack of an American presence on the track. Haas label themselves as an American team with a headquarters in Kannapolis but a lot of their work is undergone at their UK and Italian bases. Indeed, there has not been an American driver in F1 for seven years and following Colton Herta’s collapsed move to AlphaTauri , that does not look like changing anytime soon. Following the breakdown of the deal, F1 was criticised for being too European centric with IndyCar driver Graham Rahal claiming it was “elitist.” In a tweet he said: “They … [Read more...] about Zak Brown: ‘F1 does not need an American team or driver to be popular in the US’
Republican state Sen. Robert Nichols of Jacksonville said Friday that he’d support a change to Texas’ abortion laws to allow victims of rape to legally obtain the procedure. “If I get a chance to vote for an exception to rape, I will vote yes,” the East Texas senator said during a panel of Republican lawmakers at the 2022 Texas Tribune Festival. “I think instead of us telling women what to do, we should show our support for women of this state.” Nichols is one of the first anti-abortion lawmakers to say he would support loosening the abortion laws when lawmakers meet in January. Texas has one of the nation’s most restrictive abortion laws, which went into effect after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade — the landmark case that established the legal right to an abortion. Under Texas law, abortions are prohibited in almost all cases, including rape and incest, and are allowed only to save the life of the pregnant person. Texas is competing against private … [Read more...] about Republican Texas senator says he will support new rape exceptions for abortion

KATY, Texas — By day, Glenn Ayala is a 50-something account manager who spends much of his time behind a desk. But at Rick Rice Park in the early morning darkness, doing pushups and jogging with a 20-pound rucksack on his back, he is known as K9, and he is with his people. One Friday in August, Ayala joined about 20 other men in what they called the pre-dawn “gloom” for the group’s regular workout. They grunted and hooted un-self-consciously, razzing one another and shouting encouragements, using nicknames generated by the group. (Ayala got his because he trains dogs in his spare time.) The members also often gather to pray together and talk, building friendships that have extended into their daily lives: When Ayala separated from his wife, members of the group helped him move. When his relationship with his adult son foundered, they texted him Garth Brooks songs to buoy him. This is F3 — that’s fitness, fellowship and faith — a fast-growing network of men’s workouts that … [Read more...] about For suburban Texas men, a workout craze with a side of faith
WASHINGTON - Washington Capitals goaltender Charlie Lindgren arrived in the District without much fanfare. He signed with Washington on the first day of free agency in July - the same day the Capitals inked a deal with Colorado's Stanley Cup-winning goalie Darcy Kuemper to be the team's No. 1 starter. All the attention was on Kuemper that day, and the next day, and the next. Kuemper is the Capitals' shiny new acquisition, expected to be the stalwart in net who will help the team live up to expectations. But Kuemper isn't the only one slated to be in between the pipes for Washington this season. Lindgren will see a healthy amount of action as Kuemper's designated backup. Kuemper started 57 games last season in Colorado and is expected to have a similar load this year. That will leave anywhere from about 20-30 games for Lindgren, barring any injuries or significant change in Kuemper's recent play. "I've worked extremely hard to get to this point," Lindgren said. "Like I've … [Read more...] about Goaltender Charlie Lindgren’s winding NHL road leads him to Washington
Damon Hill hopes the FIA’s decision to install a new CEO, Natalie Robyn, reverses what he sees as a “degrading” of the sport’s governing body. The CEO role has been created at the FIA to complement that of the president, Mohammed ben Sulayem, with Robyn appointed due to her considerable experience in the automotive industry at companies including Volvo, Nissan and Daimler-Chrysler, although not in motorsport. In the last 12 months, the FIA’s reputation has taken a hit largely due to the way in which the climax to the 2021 title-deciding Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was managed, leading to race director Michael Masi being removed from his job. There also appears to be something of a power struggle ongoing between the FIA and Formula 1, with bones of contention including plans to increase the number of sprint qualifying events and, more recently, the timing of the 2023 F1 calendar announcement. Hill, the 1996 World Champion with Williams , feels the FIA’s position has been … [Read more...] about Damon Hill: ‘Degrading FIA need to match Formula 1’s power and weight’

Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 UNITED NATIONS (AP) — India's foreign minister laid out the country's plans for its turn at the G-20 presidency during his speech Saturday in front of the U.N. General Assembly. India assumes the mantle of the consortium of leading developed and developing nations in December. Subramanyam Jaishankar said India's approach would be “based on principles of mutual respect and national ownership with a commitment to sustainable development for all.” Among India's priority issues: the growing debt in weak economies, economic expansion, food and energy security, the environment and “the reform of governance of multilateral financial institutions.” While India has expressed concerns over Russia's war in Ukraine, the South Asian country — famously nonaligned during the Cold War — has maintained a neutral stance, refusing to abrogate business ties with Russia and join Western sanctions. … [Read more...] about India stays neutral on Ukraine war, previews G-20 term at UN
Marco Rubio hopes to sway voters interested in Chick-fil-A, Ram trucks, and Duck Dynasty. John Fetterman is searching for fans of microbreweries, Teslas and the Dave Matthews Band. And Michael Bennet wants to reach people who like Taylor Swift and Lizzo — while avoiding devoted listeners of Jason Aldean. Candidates in some of the highest-profile midterm races are using Facebook and Instagram ad targeting to aim messages at voters based on their music tastes, sports fandoms, shopping destinations and television habits, a CNN review of data from the social media platforms found. The data, which Facebook parent company Meta has started to make public in recent months, provides a snapshot into how political campaigns are slicing and dicing online groups of voters based on very specific interests. And it's a sign that as America grows more politically polarized, the candidates are using cultural icons as proxies for politics. "There are very few things in American culture, … [Read more...] about Political candidates are targeting you on social media based on these interests. Here’s how.
