The McLaren GT gets four small-run special-edition models from the McLaren Special Operations personalization division that are exclusive to the UK. The cars feature unique colors and interior materials. They are each limited to just two examples for a total production of eight vehicles. The four exclusive exterior colors have links to McLaren's past. Cerulean Blue was originally for the P1 supercar. XP Green appeared on a prototype F1 road car. Sarigan Quartz appeared on the Speedtail XP2 . Cyber Yellow is a new shade but is based on the existing Volcano Yellow color. The automaker tweaks the pearlescent coat to create a silver-and-white sparkle effect. This brings a new meaning to the phrase ‘margin for error’: 10 paces from the turn-in point to sheer oblivion – somewhere you don’t want to get it wrong. A downhill left-hander following a crest on the fabled Sete Cidades stage of the Azores Rally, and below – way, way below – is the water-filled crater of a dormant volcano. Take a look for yourself at the drop… The steep sides of this basin were formed millions of years ago, part of the process of the Azores’s nine islands rising from the mid-Atlantic – then a sea of fury. We’re on Sao Miguel, the biggest of the archipelago, and that greeny-blue body of water is the Lake of the Seven Cities. Not that you’ll find much metropolis here. A long rally history The Azores has hosted rallying for the past 51 years, and while its humble beginnings produced a local winner Luis Toste in his Fiat 1500, the event has since been won by the likes of WRC stars Juha Kankkunen, Markko Martin, Bruno Thiry and Kris Meeke. It’s a … [Read more...] about Opinion: Does the Azores boast rallying’s most spectacular view?
Max Verstappen caused a sensation when Red Bull launched him into F1 at the age of 17 with just a year’s racing experience under his belt. While pundits and ex-drivers fumed at Red Bull’s plans to put someone so young in a racing car, the FIA hurriedly rewrote the rulebook to prevent it happening again . It’s therefore certain that, for the time being at least, no new driver will have a shorter route to F1 than Verstappen, nor claim their first points at a younger age than he did in Malaysia last week. Verstappen is the latest of F1’s second generation drivers, and was born not long after father Jos made his F1 breakthrough. Ironically, his father was also considered somewhat inexperienced when he made his debut for Benetton in the 1994 Brazilian Grand Prix as a stand-in for JJ Lehto , aged 22 and with just 53 starts to his name. The older Verstappen continued in F1 driving for largely uncompetitive teams until the early 2000s. By the time he bowed out of F1 following a … [Read more...] about Max Verstappen’s Route to F1
New cars are always exciting. They usher in new technologies, improved powertrains, increased safety, fresh designs, and more to entice shoppers. Automakers sell millions a year in the US, but most Americans buy used, and that endeavor has gotten significantly more expensive over the last few years. A new iSeeCars study found that buyers of used cars are spending 33 percent more today than in 2019. The vehicles they buy are also older, increasing from 4.8 years old to 6.1. The report says that in 2019, $23,000 would buy a three-year-old used car. Today, $23,000 wouldn’t even buy a six-year-old model. One would need $24,210 to complete the save transaction.
