BRITS are shopping online for new and used cars - even though they might not trust websites. A new study has revealed a change in buyer habits despite concerns over whether they're getting a dodgy deal. Two-thirds of motorists now buy their cars online with most looking to Auto Trader, Gumtree, eBay and even Facebook. But Brits find knowing if a deal is genuine or too good to be true tough. Figures from Servicing Stop show only 36 per cent trust online classifieds while just 11 per cent feel safe with an online auction site. And only six per cent have faith in deals struck on social media. On the other hand just a third of drivers visit a showroom to shop despite the traditional car dealer still being trusted by half of drivers. The move online has caused showrooms to fall by 10 per cent since 2010 - and many major manufacturers now offer online-only deals on new cars. Vauxhall revealed it could slash its dealer network by a third over the next year, too. Cars made in modern times are built with speedometers that deliberately over-read by a small amount. This is usually not obvious at lower speeds in town or even on 40mph stretches of road. Head on to faster roads, such as a 60mph … [Read more...] about Can you trust your car’s speedometer?
