The next-generation BMW Z4 has been caught undergoing cold weather testing, and this time our spy photographer snapped the roadster with the upcoming Toyota Supra and the next-generation BMW 3 Series. Although there’s still plenty of camouflage covering the Z4, we can see a number of design cues that are clearly taken straight from the Z4 Concept shown at last year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. For the first time, we see the Z4’s twin kidney grille completely exposed and it shows a new mesh-like pattern instead of the slats used in current BMW vehicles. It’s another design cue that comes straight off of the Z4 Concept, though some design details appear to be toned down slightly. The headlight and taillight designs have also been tweaked slightly but their shape appears similar to the show car.The rear end of this particular prototype features two round exhaust tips, which means this may be the base sDrive30i model with a 2.0-liter turbo-four … [Read more...] about Spied! Click to enlargeWe’re finally getting nearer, although not quite there yet. After what seems to be years of testing and teasing, the reborn Toyota Supra is a final step away from the showroom. The image you see above is a teaser released by Toyota for a “a modern racing concept” it will show at next month’s 2018 Geneva Motor Show. The press alert was titled So yes, the Supra is still at the concept stage, despite the press alert’s “The Legend Returns” title. However, this should be a proposal that’s close to the production car – Toyota says that the showcar it will bring to the Palexpo “signals its commitment to bring back to the market its most iconic sports car.” Thanks for the pledge, Toyoda san. The longest tease ever started in September 2016, when the first spyshots of the now familiar test mule surfaced. And that’s before one takes into account the Toyota FT-1 Concept from Detroit 2014. What’s known is … [Read more...] about 2019 Toyota Supra teased – Geneva debut for concept
After years of speculation and only fleeting glimpses in spy photos, it appears we’ll finally see the Mark V Toyota Supra at the 2018 Geneva auto show in March. Toyota released the first teaser in what’s likely to be a slow drip of details leading up to the Supra’s debut. The double-bubble roof, slight ducktail lip in the hatch, large rear spoiler, and prominent hips give this away as the upcoming fifth-generation Supra. As you already know, the Supra will share a platform with the BMW Z4, as the two were jointly developed as part of a technology sharing deal. Powertrains are unknown, but the two cars could also share engines. A BMW-sourced turbocharged inline-six would make a lot of sense given the Supra’s history of straight-sixes.Not only will it share underpinnings with the BMW Z4, but the Supra will be built in the same plant. Magna Steyr’s facility in Graz, Austria, has been confirmed as the production site for both the Z4 and the … [Read more...] about Toyota Supra Teased for the First Time

In some corners of the World Wide Web, a certain sort of sports-car aficionado is awaiting the third coming of the temporarily extinct BMW Z4. Pretty much everybody else is more interested in the return of Toyota’s venerable Supra, a car prefaced by Toyota’s FT-1 concept (pictured above). Now comes some news that might well enrapture both parties, although, in this case, it’s Toyota specific. Uncovered by the heads at SupraMKV.com, Japanese magazine Best Car seems to have found specifications for the new Supra, including weight and power. The most pertinent figures are 335 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque, with a 37-hp bonus overboost function, courtesy of a BMW-sourced turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six. Weight is listed as 3284 pounds, which is 196 lighter than the turbocharged Supra we tested back in 1993. The new car is shorter than the previous model by 5.4 inches and rides on a 97.2-inch wheelbase. That’s 3.2 inches shorter than the previous Supra. It … [Read more...] about Industrious Supranauts Uncover JDM Toyota Supra Specifications!
The next Toyota Supra is still coming -- we just don't know when or what, exactly, it'll be like. So far, we’re sure that it’ll share a powertrain with its co-developed BMW Z4 sibling -- but that’s about it. Of course, we’ve seen spy shots and renderings, so we’ve got a good idea of what it’s going to look like when it hits the street, but now Japan’s Best Car magazine might have leaked all the numbers necessary to get a concrete idea of what the Supra will be.According to the folks at the MkV Supra forums, who translated the magazine’s Japanese copy, the next Supra will have a 97.2-inch wheelbase, be 172.4 inches long, 73-inches wide and 50.8-inches tall. That makes it about 5.4 inches shorter in total length and one inch taller road-to-roof than the previous-generation Supra. Throttle-Back Thursday: The Toyota Celica Supra is here...but what, exactly, is it? With the new Toyota Supra coming our way...eventually, … [Read more...] about Did Toyota Supra specs just leak from a Japanese car magazine?
five-year history of posting scoops, has leaked more secrets on the coming Toyota Supra. Instead of clarifying what we can expect from Toyota's rebooted hero car, these new rumors confuse the issue — and if they're true, the new Supra gets further away from the thrill of the old Supra every time we hear about it.For starters, ynguldyn says the coupe "will be Toyota in name and body design only." We already knew that the Supra's interior came bundled from the BMW parts bin, but now we're told that the Supra will use the "same options, same colors, same interior materials." What's more, some of those colors will also come from the BMW bin, and hark back to near the time the last Supra disappeared: Glacier Silver, Atacama Yellow, and Crimson Red, anyone?Last we heard on Supra engine choices, Autocar reported there'd be one engine, an inline-six, in four states of tune. The Bimmerpost thread counters that, saying the Supra will get three engines — two four-cylinders and a … [Read more...] about Toyota Supra to be little more than a rebodied BMW Z4?
BMW 3 Series is nearing the end of its life. BMW's smallest sedan debuted in late 2011. Since then, both the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4 have undergone a full redesign. The same goes for the 3 Series larger siblings, the 5 Series and 7 Series sedans. It appears a new model is on the way, and our spy photographer caught it undergoing winter testing with a very eclectic group of friends. We caught a glimpse of the new BMW M3 late last year. As much as we enjoy the hopped up variant, it's not going to be the model's volume seller. Compared to that car, the regular 3 Series appears to sit slightly higher. These photos may show the all-wheel drive xDrive model. Those tend to sit slightly higher than their rear-wheel drive siblings. The fenders are more narrow and the bumpers are less aggressive. Still, with the split grille and now instantly recognizable lighting, it's obvious what's resting under the camouflage. In some of the photos, it looks like the 3 Series is being tailed by the … [Read more...] about New BMW 3 Series spied testing with Z4, Toyota Supra and Porsche 911
The latest in the Toyota Supra rumour mill pegs the launch of the sports car on the Geneva Motor Show in early March. Not only that, but it will reportedly launch in four versions: Supra, Supra GR, Supra GR Sport and Supra GRMN. The news comes from Auto Express, who cite “insiders,” so take from that what you will. Last year Gazoo Racing president Shigeki Tomoyama confirmed the Supra will be Gazoo-branded, so there won’t be any Toyota badges on this car. The new report indicates there will be a decent gap between the base model and the hi-po GRMN version. Despite the March reveal, it is believed the car won’t go on sale until the second half of 2019. It will be offered exclusively as a coupe while the related BMW Z4 will take on roadster duties. In good news for Supra purists, Tomoyama is reported as saying; “The new car has to appeal to the existing owners first. The old cars had a straight-six engine, twin turbos and rear-wheel drive; the … [Read more...] about Toyota Supra to debut at Geneva?
Geneva Motor Show, two months hence, will serve to intoduce the production Toyota Supra into the world. Rather, not the Toyota Supra, but the Gazoo Racing Supra; Toyota's new hi-po sportscar will retail under Gazoo Racing branding, after Toyota knighted Gazoo as the automaker's performance arm last year. According to Auto Express, the Supra will come in four trims: Supra, Supra GR, Supra GR Sport, and Supra GRMN (GRMN stands for Gazoo Racing tuned by Meisters of the Nürburgring). The report says a "significant gap in performance and price" and different suspension tunes are likely from bottom to top.Last year, a leaked document made Supra watchers suspect three BMW-derived engines would serve the four-trim Supra range: the BMW 20i, 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder; the more powerful BMW 30i, 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder; and the BMW 40i, 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder. Commenters suspected that only the two most powerful engines would come to the U.S.The latest … [Read more...] about Toyota Supra to bow in Geneva in four trims under Gazoo Racing brand
