Cars are built to run for a long time. However, the amount of time they will run also depends on the way you drive it as well as putting the engine under undue stress can cut its lifespan. In this post, we’ll take a look at four cars that have done a crazy amount of kilometres including one that has crossed the 4 lakh kilometre mark. Mitsubishi Lancer Odo Reading – 4 lakh kilometres (claimed) This white Lancer seen in the video above is nearly 18 years old. Youtuber Sonpreet Singh, who owns this Japanese legend learned to drive in this car and it is still running today with around 4 lakh kilometres on the odometer. Sonpreet had to replace the original 2.0-litre diesel engine of his car after it finally died after running for around 3.5 lakh kilometres. Singh managed to find a replacement engine (4D68 T) from Delhi for his Lancer, which thanks to a turbo upped the performance figures to 88 hp and 175 Nm of torque up from the 66 hp and 122 Nm figures of the original 4D65 … [Read more...] about Old is gold, here is proof: 4 cars that ran trouble-free for 2-4 lakh kilometers!

Mercedes-Benz and Aston Martin have recently shown off ultra high-strung Formula 1-style roadgoing supercars. They’re fine. But Toyota’s Gazoo Racing just debuted the GR Super Sport Concept, and it’s better. Instead of being F1-inspired, Gazoo’s “road car concept model” is based off its 24 Hours of Le Mans program. And Le Mans is better than F1. Toyota won’t go so far as to say that the GR Super Sport Concept is a Toyota TS050 LMP1 prototype made street legal. It’s a little more distant than that. “Mostly the same main parts as the TS050 Hybrid race car” is how the company puts it in its English-language press release for the car, unveiled today at the Tokyo Auto Salon. I could quote that press release in full, but it’s more fun to quote the Japanese version: The “GR Super Sports Concept” released this time is exactly the concept car which is composed of almost the same main parts as the racing machine … [Read more...] about Toyota’s 1,000 Horsepower Road-Legal Racecar Concept Would Kick Mercedes And Aston Into The Trash
Toyota called it its “finest engine,” ambitious, technologically advanced and, from a modern perspective, impossibly strange. And yet few Americans ever knew it existed: the 1G, a 2.0-liter straight six that’s more interesting than you might imagine. Now, us Americans are quite familiar with the later straight six, the 3.0-liter Toyota 2JZ. It’s one of the most legendary engines of all time, giving the world stories of thousand-horsepower Supras thanks to modern tech and a super-tough iron block. But before the 2JZ there was the 1JZ, and before the 1JZ was the 1G-GTE, the first twin-cam twin-turbo production engine from any Japanese manufacturer. Now, if the 1JZ is the father of the 2JZ, then the 1G is its grandfather. I guess you could argue that the 1JZ is like an older brother to the 2JZ, in which case the 1G would be its dad, or maybe its uncle, but that’s really getting away from things. Engines do not sire other engines. They cannot reproduce, no … [Read more...] about Toyota’s First Twin Turbo Straight Six Is Stranger Than You’d Think
The Vios Challenge, as part of the Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) festival entered its second round at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS), Serdang, holding the promise of exciting racing. As it turned out, excitement was indeed the order of the race weekend, with the latter part of Day Two adding even more spice to the day’s proceedings with rain. Starting off Day Two was Race One for the 11-strong Super Sporting Class grid with spills even before the first corner. Polesitter Mark Darwin lost control of his #25 Vios when he was tapped from behind by rival Tengku Djan Ley Tengku Mahaleel, sending Darwin into the right-hand side wall before bouncing across the track width at the entry to Turn One, incapacitating his car and resulting in a red flag and a restart. Two cars down to nine, the race was restarted for the remaining 14 laps of the 1,990 metre-long MAEPS circuit, and the next racing incident followed soon after. Crowd favourite and P2 qualifier Tengku Djan … [Read more...] about Toyota Gazoo Racing festival
