The repairs begin in April. There is a recall affecting 1,666 units of the Ford Bronco Sport because of an issue with the crossover's rear suspension assembly. In total, this campaign covers 1,640 units in the United States, 24 in Canada, and 2 in Mexico. According to Ford, the rear suspension module might not be fully secured to the subframe. If there are loose or missing bolts there's an increased risk of an accident and the possibility of reduced crash performance in a rear impact. The automaker is not aware of any accidents or injuries due to this issue. VW gets 1.6 TDI fix approval and says diesel trick is legal in Europe
Both software and hardware changes are necessary. With the official approval of The Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) in Germany, VW is getting ready to kick off another recall campaign caused by the messy and costly Dieselgate . This time around, it involves a total of 2.6 million European cars equipped with the turbodiesel four-cylinder, 1.6-liter TDI engine from the now infamous EA 189 family. It’s installed in a wide array of models from Audi, Skoda, and SEAT, as well as in cars from the core brand. VW’s engineers will have to apply a “software update” to make things right once again, and owners of affected cars are going to be contacted by the company in the weeks to come. In addition, the engine will have to go through some hardware changes as a so-called "flow conditioner" will be affixed upstream of the air mass meter, a procedure which will require less than a half an hour of working time. With both software and hardware modifications in place, cars fitted … [Read more...] about VW gets 1.6 TDI fix approval and says diesel trick is legal in Europe
Top 10 F1 to Indy car converts ranked
Romain Grosjean will follow in esteemed footsteps when he makes the switch to U.S. open-wheel racing this season, the well-trodden path from Formula 1 most recently traversed by Marcus Ericsson. But who is the greatest F1-to-Indy convert? Drivers must first have competed in F1 to be eligible for our list, which rules out 1993 McLaren driver Michael Andretti and his 1978 world champion father Mario. The 1988 series champion and 1985 Indianapolis 500 winner Danny Sullivan is also ineligible, his Indy car debut in 1982 coming one year before his single F1 season at Tyrrell, while Juan Pablo Montoya and Sebastien Bourdais each won Indy car titles before moving to F1 and subsequently returning Stateside. When considering the order of the list, F1 achievement isn't factored in - it's purely down to how successfully the driver made the transition to Indy car. Making an instant impression is rewarded, and so too is longevity. On that basis, despite Fernando Alonso’s impressive debut in … [Read more...] about Top 10 F1 to Indy car converts ranked
Dale Earnhardt death: NASCAR’s tragic Daytona 500 remembered
I’m not sure what surprises me more – that it’s 20 years since Dale Earnhardt died or that I have been covering NASCAR racing even longer than that. So much has occurred in NASCAR since I began covering the sport on a regular basis in April 1998 that it’s often hard to remember many details about any particular race weekend. Oh, I’ll remember who won a race, or a particularly bad wreck or sometimes it may be something totally off the wall, like the giant Tropicana Orange that rolled onto the track at Chicagoland Speedway in 2004 during a qualifying session. But I – and I’m sure everyone else who was a part of it – remember so much more from that day. The day Dale Earnhardt died in a last-lap crash in the 2001 Daytona 500. Dale Earnhardt's fatal crash Photo by: F. Peirce Williams / Motorsport Images It was only my third time covering the Daytona 500 for The Charlotte Observer . Back then, The Observer had two beat writers who covered NASCAR – the late David … [Read more...] about Dale Earnhardt death: NASCAR’s tragic Daytona 500 remembered
