The Milton Keynes-based team appears to have gone out of its way to make sure that no detailed images of its new RB16B can be accessed by rival teams prior to the first day of pre-season testing in Bahrain. After conducting a filming day at Silverstone with both its RB15 car from 2019 and the new RB16B on Wednesday, it was noticeable that of the 76 images the team released after running, none of them were of the new car. Shots were captured of Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez and Alex Albon all in action and in the garage over the full day of running, but each was captured driving the RB15 only. All of the full car garage shots, panning shots and front views were of the old car. The RB16B was missing in action. While it would not be amiss of a second-rate team and photographer to accidentally send out the wrong car images and omit any shots of the new machine, Red Bull is a sharp outfit that knows what it is doing. So you can bet that the choice of images that were … [Read more...] about Red Bull’s missing RB16B fuels tech secret intrigue

Ferrari overhauls chassis department ahead of 2021 F1 season
After a challenging 2020 campaign, where the Italian squad was hampered by a down-on-power engine and a car that was too draggy, it has finalised an overhaul of the way it operates. It will maintain a reporting structure underneath team principal Mattia Binotto with distinct heads of departments, but has decided to reorganise how its chassis department works. Following the departure of former chassis head Simone Resta to Haas at the end of last year, Enrico Cardile has been formally put in charge of that area. He will work as a department chief alongside power unit head Enrico Gualtieri, sporting director Laurent Mekies and supply chain head Gianmaria Fulgenzi. While the processes there will remain the same, Ferrari’s chassis department will be split up into four new areas – with the hope being that this will boost the ability of the team to make improvements. The four areas will be vehicle concept (headed by David Sanchez), chassis performance engineering (Enrico … [Read more...] about Ferrari overhauls chassis department ahead of 2021 F1 season
Grand Prix return to Africa “a priority” for Formula 1
F1 global director of race promotion Chloe Targett-Adams, who deals with event organisers, said that continent is top of the current wish list for new events. Reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton has stressed that Africa is where he would like the sport to go next. Former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone tried for many years to find a way to return to South Africa, which last hosted a round of the World Championship in 1993, and that desire has continued under Liberty Media’s management. While South Africa remains the most likely venue there has also been interest from other countries, notably Morocco, which hosted a race in 1958. “I completely agree with Lewis, Africa is a continent that we don't race in, and that is just wrong,” Targett-Adams told a Blackbook online seminar. “It's somewhere that we very much want, it's the priority. We've been in talks with possible options for a few years. “And we're hoping that ultimately, we will be able to achieve a race there in the … [Read more...] about Grand Prix return to Africa “a priority” for Formula 1
2017 Chevy Corvette Grand Sport priced from $66,445
Z06 Lite goes on sale in the U.S. this summer. Unpopular opinion: The base Corvette Stingray is better than the Z06. Hear me out. The 460-horsepower LT1 engine is plenty, and works really well with the standard car’s chassis – the Z06 just feels like total overkill by comparison. This new Grand Sport, then, should prove to be the real sweet spot of the range, using the base Stingray’s V8 with a host of Z06-esque aerodynamic and performance upgrades. Plus, we now know it’ll cost $66,445, which may be $11,000 more than the base Stingray, but it’s a full $13,000 less than the supercharged Z06. With the Grand Sport, you get new front fenders, a wider track, a wide body kit, an aero package for added downforce, an upgraded cooling package, an electronic limited-slip differential, and Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. If that doesn’t sound good enough, Chevrolet will also sell you a GS with the Z07 package, which adds outrageously grippy Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. Chevy says the … [Read more...] about 2017 Chevy Corvette Grand Sport priced from $66,445
