It's heavily camouflaged, but already looking quite different than the current model. After posting a record net loss of €8 billion ($9.7B) in 2020, Renault is hoping to turn fortunes around with its five-year Renaulution plan. The main focus is electrification, highlighted by the revival of the R5 as a zero-emissions supermini and a possible return of the Renault 4. But these will take a while to hit the market, and in the meantime, the existing combustion-engined cars need to succeed to fund the EV agenda. What better way to improve cash flow if not by rolling out a new crossover? Enter the 2022 Kadjar. Renault has been spied in a snowy scenery testing prototypes of the second-generation model carrying what appears to be the full production body. Despite the heavy disguise, the new C-segment family hauler already seems to have a sharper design. The completely new LED lights at the front and rear appear to be similar to those of the 2020 Megane eVision concept . … [Read more...] about 2022 Renault Kadjar Spied For The First Time With Production Body

VW gets 1.6 TDI fix approval and says diesel trick is legal in Europe
Both software and hardware changes are necessary. With the official approval of The Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) in Germany, VW is getting ready to kick off another recall campaign caused by the messy and costly Dieselgate . This time around, it involves a total of 2.6 million European cars equipped with the turbodiesel four-cylinder, 1.6-liter TDI engine from the now infamous EA 189 family. It’s installed in a wide array of models from Audi, Skoda, and SEAT, as well as in cars from the core brand. VW’s engineers will have to apply a “software update” to make things right once again, and owners of affected cars are going to be contacted by the company in the weeks to come. In addition, the engine will have to go through some hardware changes as a so-called "flow conditioner" will be affixed upstream of the air mass meter, a procedure which will require less than a half an hour of working time. With both software and hardware modifications in place, cars fitted … [Read more...] about VW gets 1.6 TDI fix approval and says diesel trick is legal in Europe
BMW adapts i3 battery for home energy storage system
Can provide 24 hours of usage during a power outage. BMW has used the Electric Vehicle Symposium & Exhibition 29 (EVS29) to introduce its new stationary energy storage system which uses a battery sourced from the i3 . Designed to help customers "more fully realize their commitment to sustainability," the system seamlessly integrates with charging stations and solar panels so owners can offset peak energy usage costs as well as have an emergency energy supply during power outages. Speaking of the latter, BMW says daily household energy usage in the United States is between 15-30 kilowatt hours so the i3's battery should provide up to 24 hours of use during an outage. The system also seeks to save customers money as it is equipped with a real-time energy monitoring system which can measure energy supply and demand. The energy storage system can then calculate the optimal time to charge or discharge the battery. Interestingly, the system can be expanded to … [Read more...] about BMW adapts i3 battery for home energy storage system
Mazda Now Benchmarks Toyota Instead Of BMW
Engineers of the company are impressed by the new Camry. Car companies constantly compare their future products with models from other brands that are already on sale to see whether their new creations are ready to compete against the rivals. Mazda, for example, has been benchmarking its vehicles with BMW, because the two automakers share some philosophies about what a car should be. But this is no longer the case, as the Japanese manufacturer has switched its focus towards Toyota. Here’s the reason. BMW enthusiasts know that some things have changed at the Bavarian marque and it is no longer prioritizing driving joy, despite proclaiming it is building the "ultimate driving machine." The way engineers program steering feel, engine response, and exhaust noise are making modern-day BMWs less engaging to drive, the connection between the driver and the machine is almost lost. Mazda's upcoming debuts: 2018 Mazda6 Wagon To Blend Beauty With Practicality In Geneva … [Read more...] about Mazda Now Benchmarks Toyota Instead Of BMW
VW allegedly gets U.S. approval to buy back or fix dirty V6 diesels
Would follow a similar agreement reached in June to fix or repair up to 475,000 cars fitted with the 2.0 TDI engine. Latest report is indicating Volkswagen, the Environmental Protection Agency, and California’s Air Resources Board have reached an agreement about how to handle around 79,000 cars powered by the cheating 3.0-liter V6 TDI engine . According to sources close to the matter cited by Bloomberg , the three are about to sign a deal stipulating VW will take the responsibility of fixing around 60,000 vehicles equipped with the problematic turbodiesel engine. The fix is going to be very easy to apply as the engineers will only have to install a software update for the TDI unit, which was developed by Audi. The same thing can’t be said about approximately 19,000 older cars which would need more than just new software. According to the report, it would be too complex to fix those cars, so VW will have no other way but to buy them back. By not having to repurchase all … [Read more...] about VW allegedly gets U.S. approval to buy back or fix dirty V6 diesels
