Listen to this article Turkington led teammate Jake Hill all the way, via two safety cars, to head a 1-2 for the West Surrey Racing-run BMW 330e M Sport squad. In scorching conditions, Turkington led the field, and had just extended his advantage over Hill to over one second when the safety car was called for the first time on lap five, with the Power Maxed Racing Vauxhall Astra of Michael Crees in a vulnerable position on the exit of the Hamilton left-hander. Turkington, who as points leader was allowed just one lap of hybrid usage, got an excellent restart, but Hill (allowed four laps of hybrid) reeled the Northern Irishman in, and was applying serious pressure when the safety car appeared again. This time it was the Laser Tools Racing Infiniti Q50 of Aiden Moffat in trouble, the Scot getting pitched into the barriers at Riches after contact with the troubled Josh Cook’s BTC Racing Honda. The restart came with three laps of green-flag racing remaining, and … [Read more...] about BTCC Snetterton: Turkington dominates opener from Hill

Brands Hatch BTCC: Sutton wins last race in dash to flag
Listen to this article The Team BMR Subaru racer worked his way into second place after eight laps of the event, and set about slashing the 0.8s advantage that had been built up by the Power Maxed Racing Vauxhall of Josh Cook, who had started on pole position. The two fought a mighty dual and it looked as if Cook had done enough, but Sutton inched around the outside of his rival as the two cars powered towards the finish line. Sutton did just enough to take his sixth win of the season to cement fourth place in the standings. “I was laughing and smiling inside the car – that was one of the best races I have had in the BTCC,” said Sutton, who is good friends with his defeated foe. “And it had to be with that guy. “I didn’t make a great start but got my way back though and what a way to finish the season.” Rob Austin had led the early stages of the event in his HMS Alfa Romeo until Cook managed to unpick his defences into Paddock Hill Bend on lap five. … [Read more...] about Brands Hatch BTCC: Sutton wins last race in dash to flag
Brands Hatch BTCC: Turkington seals title, Cammish wins Race 2
Listen to this article Cammish blasted away from pole position and was never headed as he led home teammate Matt Neal in the second 1-2 of the day for the Team Dynamics cars. Jack Goff had run in second place initially in his Eurotech Racing Honda until it retired with an engine problem, which promoted Neal. He still had to work hard for second place as he was under severe pressure from the WSR BMW of Andrew Jordan. Over the final few laps, championship challenger Tom Ingram (Speedworks Motorsport Toyota), who had flown through the order in his ballast-free machine to scramble into fourth spot after 10 laps when he overtook Aiden Moffat’s Laser Tools Racing Mercedes. Fourth place was not going to be enough for Ingram as Turkington was running in 11th place, which was enough for him to claim the crown. Then, on lap 13, Turkington and the Honda of Dan Lloyd made contact at the top of Paddock Hill Bend and that forced the WSR BMW through the gravel and outside the … [Read more...] about Brands Hatch BTCC: Turkington seals title, Cammish wins Race 2
Top 10 Arrows F1 drivers ranked: Hill, Warwick, Fittipaldi and more
Listen to this article A team that began its time in Formula 1 under controversial circumstances, Arrows’ 24-year spell in the championship came to an end in 2002 amid mounting financial problems. Still the team with the most world championship race starts (counting the Footwork years) under its belt – at 382 – without ever taking a victory, Arrows came close to troubling the top step of the podium throughout its curious history – but fell short each time. The British squad, started up by former Lotus F1 driver Jackie Oliver, Alan Rees and Franco Ambrosio, went through multiple ownership changes in its latter years. It spent six seasons as Footwork in the 1990s, before Tom Walkinshaw took over for 1997 and restored the Arrows name. Although the team made an encouraging start under his tenure, with the Scot’s investment helping to bring 1996 champion Damon Hill and famed designer John Barnard into the team, it arguably over-reached its capabilities with an in-house engine … [Read more...] about Top 10 Arrows F1 drivers ranked: Hill, Warwick, Fittipaldi and more
BTCC Snetterton: Turkington doubles up ahead of Hill again
Listen to this article Once again, the Northern Irishman headed the sister West Surrey Racing-run BMW 330e M Sport of Jake Hill from start to finish – on the lap charts, anyway. What they don’t show was an epic first-lap battle between the two BMWs. From the outside of the second turn at the Wilson hairpin to the entrance to the esses almost two miles later, Turkington and Hill ran side by side. Right in their wheeltracks was Tom Ingram , and it was a crafty piece of NASCAR-style bumpdrafting from the Excelr8 Motorsport Hyundai i30 N that gave Turkington the surge to establish the lead at the esses. Try as Ingram might, there was no way he could challenge the BMWs after that opening lap. A mid-race safety car, caused by Gordon Shedden parking his Team Dynamics Honda on the circuit at the entrance to Coram, allowed the Hyundai to close up once again, before Turkington and Hill once more scampered clear at the restart. With four laps remaining, Hill began to put … [Read more...] about BTCC Snetterton: Turkington doubles up ahead of Hill again
BTCC Snetterton: Sutton in control to take finale win ahead of Plato
Listen to this article Three-time and reigning champion Sutton was drawn on reversed-grid pole position and, after appearing to get a strong initial launch in his Motorbase Performance-run Ford Focus, he seemed to bog down and that allowed Dan Rowbottom to sweep into the lead. But then Rowbottom ran a little too hot into the Agostini left-hander, and the Team Dynamics Honda Civic Type R driver was unable to prevent Sutton getting a run on him and claiming the lead into the following Hamilton bend. Into the next turn, the tight right-hander at Oggie’s, veteran Jason Plato also made an opportunist move to get his BTC Racing Honda down the inside, slight contact being made as Plato made his way into second position. Plato, in his landmark 650th BTCC start, put pressure on Sutton in the early stages, but by the fourth lap the Ford had eked the gap out to over a second. Plato now had to run some laps without hybrid to stay within his allocation, allowing the leader to … [Read more...] about BTCC Snetterton: Sutton in control to take finale win ahead of Plato
