Under fire 3-time F1 world champion, Nelson Piquet Sr has issued a statement apologising for the racist comments he made in a podcast against Lewis Hamilton. His comments were from a podcast in December 2021, but they received global coverage only recently as F1 approaches the British GP weekend. His comments were regarding Hamilton's crash with Verstappen at last year's British GP which caused the Dutchman to be hospitalised and turned the championship battle to be extremely acrimonious. He wanted to "clear up the stories circulating in the media about a comment I made in an interview last year." He added that the comment was "was ill thought out, and I make no defence for it." That being said he also clarified that he had no racial intent as the word he used is colloquially used in Brazilian Portuguese as a synonym for guy or person. The 7-time world champion is the only black driver in the history of the sport "I would never use the word I have been accused of in some … [Read more...] about F1: Nelson Piquet Clarifies & Apologises For Racist Comments Against Lewis Hamilton

Patrick Corbin racks up 12 strikeouts as the Nationals keep on winning
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 In the sixth inning, the Pittsburgh Pirates' Michael Chavis took an awkward swing that left him with one knee in the dirt and his bat far behind his head. He looked to the sky in frustration -- he had fallen for that pitch again. Patrick Corbin buried a slider in the dirt, and Chavis chased it. It was Chavis's third strikeout of the game, but he certainly wasn't the only one victimized by Corbin's slider during the Washington Nationals' 3-1 win Tuesday night at Nationals Park, their third in a row and sixth in the past eight games. In the eighth inning, Oneil Cruz looked just as awkward when Corbin struck him out with a slider tailing away from him. One batter earlier, Corbin had struck out Bryan Reynolds to open the inning. After Cruz headed to the dugout, Corbin struck out Chavis with a slider in the dirt -- again -- to match a career high with 12 strikeouts. All Chavis could do … [Read more...] about Patrick Corbin racks up 12 strikeouts as the Nationals keep on winning

Piquet reportedly facing life-time ban from paddock
Triple F1 World Champion Nelson Piquet is reportedly facing a life-time ban from the F1 paddock after racially abusing Lewis Hamilton. Earlier this week a video emerged of the Brazilian using a racial slur during an interview he gave towards the end of the 2021 Formula 1 season. Speaking to Motorsport Talk’s Ricardo Oliveira, Piquet gave his thoughts on the clash between Hamilton and Max Verstappen that took place at the British Grand Prix, saying: “The [racial slur] put the car in and left it, because there was no way to get past two cars at that corner. He drove dirty.” The former driver has been widely criticised for it, Formula 1 and Mercedes the first to take to social media to condemn his words. Formula 1 is said to be ‘considering banning Piquet for life’, claims The Sun , while F1 journalist Chris Medland tweeted that the sport’s bosses are “considering further action against Piquet in response to his comments, though what that actually entails is not yet decided”. … [Read more...] about Piquet reportedly facing life-time ban from paddock
Kelsie Whitmore is the first woman to play in the Atlantic League, and she knows what is possible and what isn’t
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 8 STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Kelsie Whitmore always wanted to play in the major leagues. She did not always want to admit it. "Are you sure?" people would respond, after they asked what she wanted to do. Even at an early age, she knew what they really meant: "You know you can't do that, right?" They would, and still do, tell her how hard she would have to work, as if a girl who played baseball with the boys from the moment she started Little League didn't know that already. She knew they thought she probably couldn't do it. In fairness, they had never seen anyone try. Whitmore was never afraid that that skepticism would make her question whether she belonged. As the first woman to start a game in the Atlantic League, an independent circuit, she had never exactly blended in. But she has stood in the same outfield as former major leaguers, tracking and … [Read more...] about Kelsie Whitmore is the first woman to play in the Atlantic League, and she knows what is possible and what isn’t
