Dodge Teases SEMA-Bound Muscle Car Destined For The History Books
Listen to this article Dodge put on quite a show for the first day of its Speed Week by announcing six heritage models based on the Charger and Challenger. Influenced by muscle cars of the 1960s and 1970s, they'll serve as the swan song for the V8 era ahead of an inevitable electric future. Details about all six will be disclosed later this year, but we're more eager to learn about a mysterious seventh car. It'll apparently be "the very last of its kind." Heading to SEMA in Las Vegas in early November, the muscle car is "destined for the history books," according to Dodge boss Tim Kuniskis. He refrained from going into any details, but he did point toward the "1FAST29" plate. The "Water-Winter-Wonderland" Michigan blue license plate was recently brought back, having been used by the state for the first time in 1965. 2023 Dodge Charger, Challenger Lineup Teased 6 Photos … [Read more...] about Dodge Teases SEMA-Bound Muscle Car Destined For The History Books
First Electrified Dodge Debuts Today: See The Livestream
Listen to this article Dodge's Speed Week kicked off with a veritable product onslaught as we saw a Durango SRT Hellcat, Challenger Convertible, and a carbon fiber-bodied 1970 Charger. In addition, there was a teaser for what will likely be the ultimate ICE-powered Challenger with over 900 horsepower. At the very end of the livestream, company boss Tim Kuniskis made a big announcement about what we'll see during day 2: "We're going to flip the page and we're going to look at our future – our first new electrified Dodge." He didn't go into any specifics, but logic tells us the model he was referring to was the 2023 Hornet . It won't have anything in common with the namesake concept from 2006 as that one was a boxy minivan that was supposed to go into production before it was canceled in the wake of the 2009 financial crisis. Ferrari’s F1 2022 engine gains greatest for more than 25 years
Listen to this article Ferrari bounced back from two difficult years to return to race-winning form in 2022, scoring a 1-2 at the opening race in Bahrain and three further victories in the first half of the season. A key factor in Ferrari's return to form has been its engine gains, which helped the team make up a big performance gap to the Mercedes , Honda and Renault-powered cars from the past couple of years. While it was difficult to know just how good the F1-75 car was until the opening race of the season, the engine numbers coming out of Maranello indicated Ferrari had made a big step forward - beyond anything Binotto had seen before. "We had some more clarity on the power unit, yes, because we knew where we were on the power unit, the regulations were consistent," Binotto told Motorsport.com in an interview. "On the power unit, we set big numbers in terms of objectives. And what I've seen that we have been capable of developing during last season for 2022 on … [Read more...] about Ferrari’s F1 2022 engine gains greatest for more than 25 years
Why Mercedes steered clear of an F1 car concept revamp despite early struggles
Listen to this article Mercedes failed to regularly challenge Red Bull and Ferrari at the front of the pack through the first half of this season as it struggled with porpoising and bouncing on its W13 car. The team opted for a different design route compared to the rest of the field, chasing a slimline sidepod solution that was dubbed the 'zeropod' when it debuted in Bahrain testing. As the season progressed, Mercedes gained a better understanding of its car and the issues it faced, paving the way for George Russell to score pole in Hungary at the end of July. Mercedes trackside engineering director Andrew Shovlin explained Mercedes was "not wanting to go down the route of just copying the fastest car that we could see", instead taking a long-term view with its car concept. "When you look at the long-term future as a team through a set of regulations, if you don't understand it, copying will only get you so far," Shovlin told Motorsport.com. "The most sensitive … [Read more...] about Why Mercedes steered clear of an F1 car concept revamp despite early struggles
Helmut Marko disagrees with claim Ferrari are faster than Red Bull
Helmut Marko has refuted suggestions that Ferrari have the faster car, but that doesn’t mean he believes Red Bull’s is ahead. Although Red Bull are dominating this year’s championship standings, well ahead of Ferrari on both logs, the numbers don’t tell the full story. Ferrari’s F1-75, especially in the hands of Charles Leclerc, has often been the pace-setter with the Monégasque taking seven pole positions. But when it comes to Sundays, that’s when it goes wrong for Ferrari which has allowed Red Bull to seize the advantage time and again, Max Verstappen up to eight wins for the season with Sergio Perez on one. Three of Verstappen’s wins, Spain, Baku and France, came after Leclerc retired while running P1 while another, Hungary, saw him take advantage after Ferrari dropped the ball with Leclerc’s strategy. But while it is fair to say that Red Bull have benefitted from Ferrari’s reliability issues and strategy blunders , Marko believes there is very little between … [Read more...] about Helmut Marko disagrees with claim Ferrari are faster than Red Bull
Iran submits a ‘written response’ in nuclear deal talks
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Iran said Tuesday it submitted a “written response” to what has been described as a final roadmap to restore its tattered nuclear deal with world powers. Iran's state-run IRNA news agency offered no details on the substance of its response, but suggested that Tehran still wouldn't take the European Union-mediated proposal, despite warnings there would be no more negotiations. “The differences are on three issues, in which the United States has expressed its verbal flexibility in two cases, but it should be included in the text,” the IRNA report said. “The third issue is related to guaranteeing the continuation of (the deal), which depends on the realism of the United States.” Tehran under hard-line President Ebrahim Raisi has repeatedly tried to blame Washington for the delay in reaching an accord. Monday was reported to have been a deadline for Iran's response. Nabila Massrali, a spokesperson for the EU on foreign affairs and security … [Read more...] about Iran submits a ‘written response’ in nuclear deal talks
Next US energy boom could be wind power in the Gulf of Mexico
(THE CONVERSATION) With passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, which contains US$370 billion for climate and energy programs, policy experts are forecasting a big expansion in clean electricity generation. One source that’s poised for growth is offshore wind power. Today the U.S. has just two operating offshore wind farms, off of Rhode Island and North Carolina, with a combined generating capacity of 42 megawatts. For comparison, the new Traverse Wind Energy Center in Oklahoma has 356 turbines and a 998-megawatt generating capacity. But many more projects are in development, mostly along the Atlantic coast. The Biden administration has identified two zones for offshore wind power development in the Gulf of Mexico, which up until now has been firmly identified with oil and gas production. As part of his climate strategy, President Joe Biden has set a goal for the deployment of 30 gigawatts (30,000 megawatts) of offshore wind generating capacity by 2030 – enough to power 10 million … [Read more...] about Next US energy boom could be wind power in the Gulf of Mexico
NBA schedule won’t have games on Election Day this year
This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 3 The NBA will be off on Election Day. The league’s schedule for the coming season will have all 30 teams playing on Nov. 7, the night before the midterm elections. The NBA is hoping teams use that night as an opportunity to encourage fans to get out and vote, plus amplify the need for civic engagement. But on Nov. 8, which is Election Day, no NBA teams have games scheduled. Teams are being encouraged to share election information — such as registration deadlines — with their fan bases in the weeks leading up to Nov. 8. “The scheduling decision came out of the NBA family’s focus on promoting nonpartisan civic engagement and encouraging fans to make a plan to vote during midterm elections," the league said Tuesday. All 435 U.S. House seats will be up for grabs on Nov. 8, along with more than 30 U.S. Senate seats and gubernatorial races. “It’s unusual. We don’t usually change the … [Read more...] about NBA schedule won’t have games on Election Day this year
