It's a shame to see a cool car wasting away in a garage. This Subaru SVX has been in place for around 15 years but has finally received much-needed detailing. Spraying the dust off the SVX reveals that the paint underneath is in pretty good condition. The interior is a different story, though. There's also sorts of debris and junk. Plus, deep cleaning the seats reveals how filthy they are. When the work is done, the car shines like new. The SVX went on sale in the United States for the 1992 model year and lasted until 1997 All of them used a 3.3-liter flat-six engine making 230 horsepower (172 kilowatts) and 228 pound-feet (309 Newton-meters) of torque, and a four-speed automatic was the only gearbox choice. Initially, the coupe was available exclusively with all-wheel drive. Later a front-drive version was for sale in the United States at a lower price. Outside of the US, Subaru offered models with a more sophisticated AWD system and four-wheel steering. The SVX's design came … [Read more...] about Watch a Filthy Subaru SVX Get Its First Wash Since 2008

Championing health: Why a football legend is talking about pneumococcal pneumonia vaccination
(BPT) - Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana has been vocal about the importance of getting vaccinated against pneumococcal pneumonia — a potentially serious bacterial lung disease that can disrupt your life for weeks and, in severe cases, put you in the hospital and even be life-threatening. He thinks about it like how he would prepare for games, so here are his top tips for protecting your own health: 1. Preparation is key — on or off the field. Like anyone else 65 or older, Joe is at increased risk for pneumococcal pneumonia — but he knows that getting vaccinated is one of the best ways to help defend his health. And helping protect himself against pneumococcal pneumonia is a lot like preparing for a big game. Cubii under-desk elliptical review: A multitasker’s dream come true
Is sitting the new smoking ? Plugging away at a seated desk job for eight hours each day may appear to be a benign routine, but a growing body of research suggests that a desk-bound lifestyle may actually affect your health. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Physical Activity Guidelines Advisory Committee evaluated dozens of reviews, analysis and original research articles on physical inactivity, concluding that “strong scientific evidence demonstrates that exposure to high amounts of sedentary behavior significantly increases the risk of all-cause mortality" as well as rates of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. The committee also found that increased physical activity has been shown to lower such risks. While we may not be able to abandon the 9-to-5 workday model in the name of long-term health just yet, there's nifty gadgets on the market to help offset the effects of a sedentary lifestyle and improve fitness without having to hop off Zoom. TikTok … [Read more...] about Cubii under-desk elliptical review: A multitasker’s dream come true
Chef Nikki Tran is building a culinary bridge between Houston and Saigon
It's Crawfish Week at Chron! For four days, the food team will be dropping fun stories about Houston's favorite crustacean. Read all our crawfish coverage here. HO CHI MINH CITY, VIETNAM — Freshwater shrimp, more specifically giant river prawns, are the star of the menu at chef Nikki Tran's Kậu Ba Quán . At first glance, it resembles any of the hundreds of quán nhậu, or open-air restaurants meant for plentiful eating and drinking, in Ho Chi Minh City, colloquially referred to as Saigon. A Saigon native, Tran serves the prawns in the quintessential Vietnamese preparation: rang muối, or salt-roasted. Sporting a slight char, these typically come with a dipping ramekin of simply salt, pepper and a whole calamansi. But, as a result of Tran's time in Houston in the early 2000s at the onset of the Vietnamese-Cajun crawfish movement , the hulking crustaceans here also come in a Gulf Coast version: generously slathered in Cajun garlic butter atop potato halves, corn and spiced … [Read more...] about Chef Nikki Tran is building a culinary bridge between Houston and Saigon
NHRA’s Big Go at Indianapolis sets field for playoffs
Listen to this article Lucas Oil Raceway may not occupy even half the size of its neighbor to the east, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, but for the Labor Day weekend each year, it becomes a community of racers that closes the summer racing season, just as Indy at Memorial Day acknowledges the start. These are the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals, held this year for the 62nd time on 261 acres filled with varying degrees horsepower and torque. A flock of speed demons from around the country (and occasionally from overseas) converges west of Indianapolis to celebrate straight-line racing. The action started on Wednesday August 31st and continues through Labor Day on September 5th. The final spots in the $100,000 Traxxas Nitro Shootout for both Top Fuel and Funny Car were decided through a drawing at Indianapolis’ Monument Circle on Wednesday. While the popular online vote went to Clay Millican (TF) and 16-time Funny Car champion John Force, a random drawing decided the two … [Read more...] about NHRA’s Big Go at Indianapolis sets field for playoffs
U.S. Nationals drama is a taster of what’s to come
Listen to this article For the NHRA’s Mello Yello Drag Racing Series competitors, bringing home the Wally trophy at Lucas Oil Raceway outside Indianapolis means everything. Heck, even qualifying for this race isn’t easy: anyone who has a chance to make the field will come to this place and try, and so there’s always a surge in entrant numbers. Recently it’s been tough to scavenge sufficient competition to make a full field of 16 for eliminations for the Mello Yello 24-race campaign. Racing at the top is always expensive and partnerships that work are often tough to find. But for the 62nd annual Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals, there were plenty of “go hard or go home” racers on the 261-acre premises. There were a healthy 20 Top Fuel dragsters, 19 Funny Cars, 19 Pro Stocks and 23 PS Motorcycles. And so there was bumping in and out of the field and upsets that changed the scope of the six-race Countdown to the Championship playoffs that start in Charlotte next week. … [Read more...] about U.S. Nationals drama is a taster of what’s to come

Elite seeks rapid and radical performance boost
Listen to this article The team’s two-time and reigning Pro Stock champion Erica Enders-Stevens had far and away the car to beat for the past couple of seasons and that’s all changed this year. Elite switched from Chevrolet to Dodge cars and engines for the 2016 season. Then part-time teammate from 2015, five-time Pro Stock champion Jeg Coughlin Jr., came onboard full-time. And then the NHRA changed the rules… Instead of using the Mopar engine from 2015, Elite – along with every other team in the Pro Stock category – was forced to change from carbureted to fuel injected engines. This edict was handed down in late July of 2015, giving teams little more than six months to prepare. In addition, the teams went from having no set rpm limit to having to keep their engines at 10,500 rpm or lower. Lacking carburetors, the cars had a different look to them, losing the bulbous noses that were part and parcel of Pro Stock for so long. An amended wheelie-bar size was also … [Read more...] about Elite seeks rapid and radical performance boost
