Honda’s Toyoharu Tanabe credited Pierre Gasly for the Red Bull Toro Rosso Honda team’s strong performance at the Monaco Grand Prix, though mentioned they were happy to have another weekend of good reliability. Honda switched from supplying the McLaren F1 Team to suppling Toro Rosso at the end of the 2017 season – a move that shocked most and led many to believe the Red Bull sister team would suffer a similar fate to McLaren. This hasn’t been the case though, and whilst Honda’s performance in last year’s Monaco Grand Prix wasn’t particularly strong – both McLaren cars failed to finish – Honda this year helped Toro Rosso to finish seventh with Pierre Gasly. McLaren meanwhile, who have since swapped to Renault engines, saw Fernando Alonso retire due to engine issues and Stoffel Vandoorne finish outside the points in fourteenth. Commenting after the race, Tanabe said that … [Read more...] about Honda’s Toyoharu Tanabe “This was a very strong performance from the whole team”
The red team
He is yet to sign a new Mercedes deal, but Lewis Hamilton says he "wants to take this team the furthest it has ever been" and "really upset the red cars and the red team". Hamilton, who celebrated his 100th race with Merc at the Bahrain GP, is yet to commit his long-term future to the team with his current contract coming to an end at the end of this year. The four-time World Champion has made it clear in the past that he hasn't talked to any other teams and when asked by the Mercedes F1 website what the future holds, he replied: "My hope for the future is that we continue – continue to grow, excel and always move forwards. Obviously, to build our relationship. But I really want to take this team the furthest it has ever been. "I want to be part of this journey where Mercedes are the most successful Formula One team in history. "I want to push it as far as I can, with the lifespan as a driver that I have, that it would take a long, long time for anyone else to catch up. I think … [Read more...] about Hamilton: My goal is to push Merc far and really upset the red team
Formula 1’s vision for its 2021 overhaul has been tipped to end the de facto split between the grid’s biggest teams and its current midfielders. Liberty Media and the FIA presented its proposals to teams earlier this month in Bahrain, including a suggested cost cap and modification of how funds are distributed. Mercedes, Scuderia Ferrari and Red Bull have had a monopoly on race victories since 2013, while last year’s fourth-best team Force India did not even score a podium. Force India’s chief operating officer Otmar Szafnauer told Motorsport.com that F1’s 2021 plans “should get rid of the two tiers”, which broadly split the three top teams, plus McLaren and Renault, from Williams, Toro Rosso, Sauber, Haas and Force India. He believes F1 can transform from a series in which “the person who can spend the most wins to, in the future, the person who spends the smartest wins”: “The two tiers are defined by your budget. What … [Read more...] about Formula 1’s 2021 plans will reduce gap between the top teams and the current midfielders

September 18, 2015 by ponycargirl Leave a Comment At the onset of the Red Bull Global Rallycross double header presented by Subaru Tecnica International, all contenders were looking to narrow the wide gap between themselves and points leader Ken Block by racing their way to the podium. In addition to full-season drivers Bucky Lasek and Sverre Isachsen, Subaru Rally Team doubled their presence with winning-streaking rally driver David Higgins and fan favorite Travis Pastrana all in new STi livery. After disappointingly not making the podium in the Volkswagen-sponsored Washington DC race, Beetle drivers Scott Speed and Tanner Foust were also tweeting smack in the weeks leading up to LA. This literary device, while clumsily executed here, is known as foreshadowing. In the final it looked like it was going to be Speed with the win, Foust in second, and Isachsen in a hard-fought third place, until a competitive Patrik Sandell edged past the Subaru driver in the last lap. … [Read more...] about Shaking It Up at the Red Bull GRC Double Header in L.A.
