The fast and furious
No one forgets their first car. First cars represent freedom, at least within the bounds of curfews and parental scoldings on late nights. For the cast of the "Fast and Furious" franchise, first cars were no different. A video from 2013 shows Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Tyrese Gibson, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and Ludacris on camera sharing their first cars the associated stories with them. Of them all, Johnson perhaps has the craziest. The professional wrestler turned actor recalled that his car, a 1979 Ford Thunderbird, was purchased from a "crackhead" at a Nashville, Tennessee, bar. The "crackhead" walked into the bar (Johnson was 15-years-old at the time), and asked if anyone wanted to buy a car for $75. Johnson took the bait and gave the individual $40. When Johnson took off with his friend, he noticed another "crackhead" on the floor in the rear of the Thunderbird. Ultimately, he asked the person to leave, which they did, and the rest is history. Before the Dodge Chargers were dragging safes through Rio in improbable bank heists, before the orange Toyota Supra, before living your life a quarter-mile at a time, before Dom and Letty and Brian, there was just Stephan Papadakis, his friends, and Los Angeles. They weren’t interested in bar hopping or clubbing or what everyone else their age was doing. They were interested in cars, deserted streets and going fast. These were the Rodney King years, when crime, racial tension and police brutality were at a boiling point. Out of that atmosphere, Papadakis would rise to become a legend in drag racing history, shattering front-wheel drive records in his little yellow Hondas, proving that these underestimated tuner cars had real performance potential. Today, Papadakis runs a successful race shop that bears his name, but his ascent into legalized motorsports had beginnings in … [Read more...] about How LA’s Underground Street Racing Scene and The Fast And The Furious Grew Up

Titled "Hobbs and Shaw," the film features The Rock and co-star Jason Statham reprising his role as Deckard Shaw. "Hobbs and Shaw" will hit theaters on July 26, 2019, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Also joining the cast is Idris Elba. Known for portraying great characters in the HBO series "The Wire," within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and in "Pacific Rim," among many other memorable roles, Elba will serve as the villain in this one. We don't know anything about the story line just yet, but it's safe to assume that Hobbs and Shaw will reluctantly join forces to bring down bad-guy Elba. This film will take place in the "Fast and Furious" universe, and it's being written by a man who understands this world. Screenplay writer Chris Morgan wrote "The Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift," "Fast … [Read more...] about The Rock to star in “Fast and Furious” spin-off, “Hobbs and Shaw”
