Sir Stirling Moss: His greatest drives ranked

· April 12, 2020 ·

Between Juan Manuel Fangio’s retirement and Moss’s career-ending crash at Goodwood in 1962, he was the F1 benchmark. And he was the top sportscar performer for nearly a decade. When picking out greatest drives, there are a number of different criteria we look at. Impressing in inferior machinery, great recovery drives and demonstrations of wet-weather prowess are among the sorts of races we look for. Moss had some of the best examples of all of these, and more. The most challenging thing was cutting this list down to 10… Read Also: Sir Stirling Moss dies aged 90 Why Stirling Moss was ‘Mr. Motor Racing’ 10. 1950 Tourist Trophy Jaguar XK120 / Result: 1st The Dundrod road circuit in Northern Ireland is a fearsome venue, one which was considered too fast for top-line car racing after three driver deaths in 1955. It is therefore perhaps understandable that, like all other works squads, Jaguar would not give the then 20-year-old Moss a car … [Read more...] about Sir Stirling Moss: His greatest drives ranked

Williams appoints ex-VW man Demaison as technical director

· March 23, 2021 ·

Demaison arrives at Williams after a decade-long spell at Volkswagen Motorsport, where he helped develop the ground-breaking I.D.R electric car that achieved multiple records at Pikes Peak and the Nurburgring. He was also responsible for the WRC Polo C car that won the rally titles from 2013 and 2016. During that time he forged a close alliance with then VW motorsport boss Jost Capito, who is now Williams CEO. The Frenchman, who is more commonly known as FX, has also had spells at Peugeot, Subaru and Citroen during a lengthy engineering career. Capito said that Demaison's hiring was great news for Williams as it embarks on a new era under the ownership of Dorilton Capital. "We are delighted to welcome FX to the team," said Capito. "I have seen his technical capabilities first-hand, and his sporting successes speak for themselves. Bringing in someone of his calibre to our already experienced technical team will help drive the future direction of our operation and … [Read more...] about Williams appoints ex-VW man Demaison as technical director

Qoros Milestone Concept shows its wild side in Beijing

· October 1, 2020 ·

The angular saloon with sliding doors has a windscreen that doubles as a giant screen. The coronavirus pandemic has been cancelling auto shows left and right this year, but the Beijing Motor Show is one of the very few that have survived. Originally scheduled for late April, the event in China’s capital is in full swing, and there are actually a lot of interesting cars to see. Take for example this Qoros Milestone, a striking sedan with edgy styling and an avant-garde interior design. Qoros’ global media site is disappointingly outdated, but local media has managed to obtain some information about the angular saloon. It’s allegedly five metres (197 inches) long and two metres (79 inches) wide, while standing just 1.4 metres (55 inches) tall. To put those numbers into perspective, it’s about as long as an Audi A7 Sportback , but significantly wider and a tad lower.
