Govt mulls ending Thai Pass
Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul talks at the Better Thailand Open Dialogue forum at the Siam Paragon shopping mall on Friday. (Photo: Anutin Charnvirakul Facebook account) The Ministry of Public Health has given a loose time frame for when it will decide upon dropping the Thailand Pass for foreigners. To make its decision, the ministry needs more solid information about infected cases coming from foreign entry to reach a conclusion, Minister of Public Health Anutin Charnvirakul said on Friday at an event organised by Chulalongkorn Alumni Associations and their partners. "It's possible that we will cancel the registration requirement of Thailand Pass for foreigners. We need one more month then we will have a clear answer," he said. Mr Anutin, however, said the country is now relaxing many regulations used in its bid to manage Covid-19 infections due to the improving situation regarding daily infections. The minister gave examples of the latest easing measure with … [Read more...] about Govt mulls ending Thai Pass
Thai Pass to be axed for locals
Thai nationals returning from abroad by air need not register for a Thailand Pass starting next month, while foreign visitors will enjoy faster processing, according to the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA). CCSA spokesman Taweesilp Visanuyothin said the centre has decided to scrap the requirement for Thai nationals from June 1. Meanwhile, international travellers will be issued a QR code after completing registration without any need to wait for approval. They are, however, still required to have insurance coverage of US$10,000 (342,700 baht), he added. Those with a negative Covid-19 test result obtained within 72 hours of departure will not have to quarantine, although all tests must have been supervised, he said. Dr Taweesilp said the number of foreign visitors between Jan 1 and May 9 exceeded 1 million with about 98% fully vaccinated on arrival. According to deputy government spokeswoman Rachada Dhnadirek, due to the surge in tourist arrivals, revenue in … [Read more...] about Thai Pass to be axed for locals

Why ‘Atlanta’ Season 3 was such a letdown
In its first two outings, the auteur-driven, genre-defying absurdist dramedy "Atlanta" - about an aimless, upwardly immobile Princeton dropout named Earn (played by series creator Donald Glover) who remakes himself as the manager of his cousin Alfred's (Brian Tyree Henry) fledgling rap career - was one of the most acclaimed shows on television. The crown jewel of its network, the already prestige-laden FX, it boasted Emmys, star power, buzz, influence and a rare, smirking wit that seldom got its due in the countless, and fully deserved, paeans to its trenchant social commentary and boundary-pushing experimentation. Perhaps the surest sign of its success is how many shows it's inspired; it's hard to imagine critic's darlings like "Dave," "Ramy" or "Reservation Dogs" existing without it. But Season 3, which premiered this spring after a four-year hiatus, has had a more mixed reception. Much of it follows the cousins on Al's (aka Paper Boi) latest European tour, where they're joined by … [Read more...] about Why ‘Atlanta’ Season 3 was such a letdown

Florida appeals court reinstates DeSantis congressional map
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — A new congressional map drawn by Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' staff that could diminish the state's Black representation in Washington was reinstated by an appeals court Friday, a week after a lower court judge said the map was unconstitutional. The 1st District Court of appeals ruled Judge Layne Smith erred when he ordered a replacement map be used for the 2022 election. The latest order means the governor's map is reinstated pending the outcome of a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the map. While the appeals court didn't address the constitutionality of the map, it did cite “the need for certainty and continuity as election season approaches.” The ruling comes as the state gets closer to the June 13 to 17 qualifying period for federal office. The DeSantis map would likely boost the number of Florida seats held by Republicans, while also making it difficult for Democratic U.S. Rep. Al Lawson to maintain his seat in a north Florida … [Read more...] about Florida appeals court reinstates DeSantis congressional map
