Michigan QB Shea Patterson drafted by baseball’s Texas Rangers
Angelique S. Chengelis The Detroit News Published 11:56 p.m. UTC Jun 6, 2018 Michigan quarterback Shea Patterson has a baseball future? Well, perhaps. Patterson was selected by the Texas Rangers in the 39th round, the No. 1,169 selection of the Major League Draft on Wednesday. He is listed as a third baseman from Michigan, although he hasn’t played for the Wolverines. This prompted some fun on Twitter by the Michigan baseball and football accounts. The baseball account tweeted a baseball and football emoji with a question mark and a link to the MLB Draft. Michigan’s football account responded: “Shea Patterson has been selected in the #MLBDraft. But we know he’ll be with us this season.” Patterson played baseball in high school but did not play his senior year at IMG Academy. George Stoia Detroit Free Press Published 11:33 p.m. UTC Jun 6, 2018 Michigan quarterback Shea Patterson apparently was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 39th round of the MLB draft on Wednesday. Patterson, who transferred to Ole Miss and is expected to compete for the Wolverines' starting quarterback spot, has not played organized baseball since his junior year of high school. Patterson was drafted as a third baseman as the 1,169th overall pick. Patterson joins Oklahoma's Kyler Murray notable college quarterback to be taken in this year's draft. However, Patterson's situation is nowhere near Murray's, who was taken No. 9 overall by the Oakland Athletics and has reportedly been offered a signing bonus near $5 million. Patterson started the first seven games of the year for Ole Miss, throwing for 2,259 yards and 17 touchdowns.
