Once the spin begins, you'd think for sure a crash will follow. This Tesla Model 3 spins out on a snowy motorway, but somehow, almost miraculously, it doesn't crash. This might be the best save we've ever seen. We can't credit Tesla Autopilot here, but surely the Tesla's various safety systems, including traction control and ABS, helped to save the day. As you'll see in the video, a Tesla Model 3 is travelling down a snowy highway when it loses control. The car swerves, then spins and that's when you spot the big snowplough truck coming up behind. Somehow, the driver rights the car again though, after a few more swerves and brings it back around so that it's facing the right direction. Almost all of the buyers previously were driving conventional combustion cars. Tesla noted in its Q1 2021 report that 98% of Tesla trade-ins are internal combustion engine (ICE) cars, including hybrids we assume. That's not surprising, as 97% of overall global sales of new cars today are non-plug-ins, and in the past it was close to 100%. Only a small part of Tesla customers (2%) previously were driving EVs from other manufacturers. An interesting thing is the brand rank, which reveals that most customers were driving non-premium brands (Toyota, Honda and Ford are the top three). Premium brands appear to represent more than a third of trade-ins and the top three brands are BMW, Lexus and Audi. "ICE vehicles comprised 97% of cars sold globally in 2020 and 98% of Tesla trade-ins. 1 As more OEMs join our mission by launching EVs, we believe consumer confidence in EVs continues to increase and more customers are willing to make the switch." No water or foam needed. Mostly. Car fires are frightening occurrences that can quickly get out of hand. And it can happen to both combustion cars and electric vehicles. A recent Tesla crash had firefighters using 32,000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire , but a Norwegian company called Bridgehill offers a better solution – a fire blanket that can fit over an entire car. It works by smothering the flames, depriving the fire of its much-needed oxygen. Car fires can be toxic, too, with countless chemicals running off into the environment and noxious smoke filling the air as firefighters attempt to extinguish it with water. The blanket helps eliminate some of those hazards, extinguishing the fire in minutes, according to the company. However, the lithium batteries in electric vehicles can burn without oxygen, though the blanket can help isolate the fire until firefighters arrive.
