New year, same story for Rockets as Splash Brothers fuel blowout loss

March 21, 2023 by www.chron.com Leave a Comment

The James Harden era in Houston may feel like a distant memory for Rockets ' fans, but the team's main rival in Harden's tenure is still rolling along as the 2022-23 season comes to a close. The more things change at the Toyota Center, the more they stay the same for Stephen Curry and the Warriors. It hasn't exactly been business as usual for Curry and the Warriors this season. Golden State's title defense is on relatively rocky ground even after Monday's 121-108 win over the hapless Rockets, with the defending champions now sporting an ugly road record of 7–29. But Monday's return to Houston helped the Warriors look largely like their dynastic selves. Curry led all scorers with 30 points, Klay Thompson added 29, and a late surge Golden State made all look right in the Bay Area. For Warriors coach Steve Kerr, returning to the Toyota Center brings a bit of a spark for his veteran group. "This is a great reminder every time we come to the Toyota Center of some amazing battles with … [Read more...] about New year, same story for Rockets as Splash Brothers fuel blowout loss

Williams rookie Logan Sargeant is aiming to help with the growth of Formula 1 in the United States as he finds his feet in the sport. The Florida-born racer has only completed his first two Grand Prix weekends in Formula 1, having stepped up to the big leagues with Williams after signing as a Williams junior in 2021. Having become America’s first full-time F1 racing driver since Scott Speed 16 years ago, Sargeant has arrived into the sport without the nationalistic fanfare that other recent rookies have enjoyed, but, at a time when US interest in Formula 1 is at an all-time high, Sargeant is hopeful of capturing the imagination of the American public who have gone so long without a driver to cheer on. Sargeant sat down for a conversation with PlanetF1.com on the eve of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, a weekend that would turn out to be one to forget after a troubled qualifying. Having had a strong debut weekend in Bahrain, en route to 12th place overall, it’s clear the 22-year-old … [Read more...] about Exclusive: Logan Sargeant’s quest to win the hearts of the American public

Arkansas restricts school bathroom use by transgender people

March 21, 2023 by www.chron.com Leave a Comment

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Tuesday signed a law prohibiting transgender people at public schools from using the restroom that matches their gender identity, the first of several states expected to enact such bans this year amid a flood of bills nationwide targeting the trans community. The bill signed by the Republican governor makes Arkansas the fourth state to place such restrictions at public schools, and it comes as bills in Idaho and Iowa also await their governor's signature. And it might be followed by an even stricter Arkansas bill criminalizing transgender adults using public restrooms that match their gender identity. Arkansas' law, which won't take effect until later this summer, applies to multi-person restrooms and locker rooms at public schools and charter schools serving prekindergarten through 12th grade. The majority-Republican Legislature gave final approval to the bill last week. “The Governor has said she will sign laws … [Read more...] about Arkansas restricts school bathroom use by transgender people

This is a carousel. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate 9 WASHINGTON (AP) — Fictional soccer coach Ted Lasso used a White House visit Monday to encourage people, even in politically divided Washington, to make it a point to check in often with friends, family and co-workers to "ask how they're doing, and listen, sincerely,” Comedian Jason Sudeikis, who plays the title character — an American coaching a soccer team in London — and other cast members were meeting with President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden to talk about how mental health contributes to overall well-being. Mental health and looking after one another is a theme of “Ted Lasso,” Sudeikis told reporters from the lectern as he helped press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre open her daily White House briefing. The Emmy-winning, feel-good show on Apple TV+ just opened its third season. “While it’s easier said than done, we also have to know … [Read more...] about ‘Ted Lasso’ visits White House, promotes mental health care

Yuki Tsunoda said AlphaTauri was losing out to its rivals in the straights and corners in Jeddah after narrowly missing a points finish for the second race in a row. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free From 15th on the grid, Tsunoda climbed to sixth in the first third of the 50-lap Saudi Arabian Grand Prix before pitting. He then ran in eighth but lacked the pace of the cars behind him and eventually finished 11th. He described it as a “pretty tough” race. “I gave my 100% effort every lap, and still couldn’t [retain position],” Tsunoda said of his lengthy second stint in the race. “Lost positions like that in the end in the last four laps, so I’m just really frustrated.” On a high-speed track where very few of the corners require braking, Tsunoda said his AlphaTauri AT04 “lost too much pace in the straights, and a couple of corners that required downforce.” He “had to put in 100% effort in sector one to maximise the pace from our car to make the gap as much … [Read more...] about Tsunoda “expected much worse” after narrowly missing points again · RaceFans

Volkswagen Assets Frozen In Russia Over Contract Dispute

March 21, 2023 by www.motor1.com Leave a Comment

Lots of automakers are fleeing the Russian market. Volkswagen is among them, but it is now facing a problem. A court in the country froze all of the company's assets there, according to Reuters . The dispute is because the Russian automotive manufacturer GAZ has a contract to produce VW vehicles in Nizhny Novgorod. Volkswagen ended its agreement with the firm in August. GAZ responded by suing for the equivalent of $201.3 million for allegedly breaking their arrangement. Separately, VW is working to sell its interests in the country, which includes the factory in Kaluga. The process is reportedly nearing completion. "We hope the lawsuit will not delay the transaction," a Volkswagen spokesperson told Reuters . Listen to this article Development of the Tipo 6 LMH Competizione led by Michelotto in Italy has continued since the launch at the end of February of the completed car powered by a bespoke three-litre twin-turbo V6 developed by HWA and a hybrid system supplied by Williams Advanced Engineering. It is currently running on an all-wheel-drive dyno at automotive engineering specialist AVL in Italy for a second time and has also been to the Sauber wind tunnel in Switzerland for aerodynamic testing. Isotta motorsport boss Claudio Berro told Autosport that the car should be ready to start track testing in conjunction with the British Vector Sport team in “one or two weeks”. “We need the functionality to be perfect before we run the car for the first time, whether that’s on a proper race track or in straightline testing,” said Berro. “We are planning an extensive test programme, and after that we will begin the homologation process with the FIA. “The target is still to be … [Read more...] about Isotta Fraschini Hypercar test plan outlined ahead of Monza WEC debut
