The 2019 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has been spied at the company's stock yard, completely undisguised, revealing details of the new car. From the outset, it's clear that the new Wagon R does not bear any resemblance to the current generation Wagon R that is on sale in Japan. Instead, Maruti Suzuki has adopted an evolutionary design theme for the 2019 Wagon R. The car is reportedly based on the same platform as before, however, it is longer and wider. The tall-boy design, a signature feature of the Wagon R, continues and the overall silhouette of the car looks similar to the outgoing model. The front end looks entirely different with a chrome bar split grille, flanked by large headlamps. The car in the spy shot looks like one of the lower variants, apparent by the lack of fog lamps. The Suzuki Wagon R electric has been spotted testing in Gurugram. The latest sighting happens merely days after IAB reader Rajeev Kumar spied the EV undergoing testing on the Delhi-Jaipur highway. Stickers on the rear windscreen reveal that these are the twenty-fifth and the thirtieth units of the 50 Wagon R electric cars are undergoing road testing.The Suzuki Wagon R electric prototypes that are being tested on the Indian roads are based on the current JDM-spec Wagon R which went on sale in February 2017. The 50 test units have been imported from Japan via the CKD route and have been assembled at the company's Gurugram-based facility. The prototypes use an electric motor that gets its juice from a 72-volt, 10.25 kWh battery.The Suzuki Wagon R EV seen here isn't India-bound. Update: An IAB reader has shared a spy video of the Maruti Wagon R EV.October 25 -Last month, Maruti Suzuki commenced fleet testing of the Wagon R EV in India. IAB reader Nitin Johar spotted it in Gurgaon last week.The Maruti Wagon R EV is based on the new generation Japanese spec Suzuki Wagon R that was introduced in February last year. It debuted in India at the MOVE Summit in September this year. There are total 50 prototypes in India, all developed by Suzuki and built by Maruti Suzuki at the Gurugram facility in Haryana with CKD kits. On the 9th of this month, these prototypes were flagged off for the field test.Maruti Suzuki is testing the Wagon R EV on multiple terrains and in various climatic conditions to get valuable insights and gather critical inputs based on customer perspectives. The spied images that you see below are that of the Suzuki Solio. This particular model is the 7-seater version which is being speculated to be a more premium offering compared to the Wagon R, an MPV that will be positioned below the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. While there is no confirmation from Maruti Suzuki on whether they have any plans to launch the 7-Seater Maruti Suzuki Wagon R in India or is this a part of global validation that many automobile manufacturers conduct around the world. The new-gen Suzuki Solio that has already been launched in Japan is said to be based on the same lightweight Heartect platform that underpins the new Swift, Dzire, Baleno and also possibly the upcoming new-gen Ertiga. The new Suzuki Wagon R RR and Wagon R Stingray Customize concepts will be seen in world premiere next month at the Japanese event. To begin with, the Suzuki Wagon R RR concept gets a special white finish, new alloy wheels, special graphics and a retuned suspension system lowering the ride. Next up is the Wagon R Stingray Customize, a prototype which gets a brown exterior color, new side skirts and bumpers, a lowering suspension module, a special dual-pipe exhaust system and new side skirts. For now, Suzuki released no further details on these two concepts and their main purpose.
