Somewhere between learning how to swaddle and trading neighborhoods with good gastropubs for neighborhoods with good grade schools, you realized that city runabout just won't cut it as a family hauler. Enter the three-row SUV. The 2018 Volkswagen Atlas is the current champ, with enough utility and drivability to smoke its peers in our comparison test last year en route to winning Cars.com's top award for the 2018 model year. But then Subaru reentered the ring with the all-new 2019 Ascent, its first three-row SUV since the demise of the Tribeca. On sale now, the Ascent is what Subaru calls a "mobile headquarters" for the family. How do the two match up? Managing Editor Joe Bruzek and Senior Consumer Affairs Editor Kelsey Mays — both new dads themselves — drove the SUVs back to back. Cars with highest three-year depreciation create bargains for used car shoppers As the number of off-lease vehicles continues to rise, a new study by car search engine iSeeCars.com reveals which late-model used cars are the best deals for consumers looking to purchase an almost-new vehicle. While the average vehicle depreciates 35 percent after three years, these highest-depreciating vehicles lose between 46 percent and 52 percent of their value, resulting in significant savings for consumers opting to buy a three-year-old vehicle in favor of a new one. “The rising popularity of auto leases in recent years has led to an influx of cars coming off lease, creating the opportunity for consumers to find bargains on late-model vehicles,” said iSeeCars CEO Phong Ly. “Consumers who take advantage of these best bargains can purchase a three-year-old car for half the price of what it would cost to buy the same car new.” iSeeCars.com analyzed more than 4.1 million car … [Read more...] about Best Bargains on Almost-New Cars
At least 19 people lost their lives and more than 12 were injured after they were crushed under two concrete beams that fell off 40-foot high pillars of an under-construction flyover in Varanasi. The huge slabs of concrete fell on the slow-moving traffic under the yet-to-open flyover. The two concrete pillars came crashing down on a bus, two SUVs, two cars, an auto, and some two-wheelers. The gravity of the situation can be gauged from the fact that a huge relief force, comprising of 350 personnel from National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Army Medical Corps and police were immediately put into action. It took this team more than four hours to extricate the bodies. The local slum dwellers swung into action before the NDRF could arrive. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath and deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya flew to Varanasi as soon as they heard about the mishap. The twin beams that fell off the flyover were mounted on pillar no. 79 and 80. They were put in place only about a week ago and … [Read more...] about Bridge falls on cars moving in service lane, 19 dead

Our Bollywood stars earn enough through movies and endorsements to splurge on expensive sets of wheels. Most of our famous actors have a really wide range of expensive cars in their garage. Ranbir Kapoor, who is from a slightly younger lot of successful actors, doesn’t have too many cars in his garage. However, the 5 cars in his garage are pretty enviable and, of course, expensive, too. Moreover, his swanky cars are even practical enough for a daily use. Today, we’ll have a look at Ranbir Kapoor’s car collection. Land Rover Range Rover Vogue The Range Rover Vogue is among the most luxurious and even the most revered SUVs around the globe. No wonder, then, that the Vogue has been a choice of many rich Bollywood stars. Ranbir is said to have bought this car around October last year. The actor has also been seen using a white Range Rover Sport from the previous generation. However, the Vogue is clearly from a class above and offers much more in terms of performance and … [Read more...] about Ranbir Kapoor’s 5 enviable cars: Range Rover Vogue to Audi R8

With the Bentley Bentayga already on the road and the Rolls-Royce Cullinan just around the corner, it made sense that Mercedes would build a Maybach version. Past reports suggested it would be based on the next-generation GLS, and concepts such as the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet had us looking forward to seeing Mercedes’ take on an ultraluxury SUV. But could we have predicted the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury? Not at all. From the front, the design looks familiar, incorporating a lot of the styling cues we’ve seen in other recent Mercedes concepts. But instead of sticking with a traditional two-box SUV shape, the Ultimate Luxury concept looks … [Read more...] about This SUV-Car Mashup is the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury Concept

There are perhaps no letters more fashionable in the car industry right now than SUV. Car buyers love them and so, predictably, manufacturers are racing to build them. There’s no shame in that; a firm making cars that the public wants to buy isn’t just good business practice, it’s plain common sense. Except some firms are tripping over themselves to avoid using the term SUV.An example: in a press release confirming its first SUV would be called the Cullinan, Rolls-Royce referred to the machine as a ‘high-sided vehicle’. This was subsequently tweaked to ‘high-bodied vehicle’, presumably because ‘high-sided vehicle’ sounds like the sort of thing you can’t drive over the Severn Bridge during high winds.Meanwhile, Ferrari has spent ages denying it was making an SUV – despite everyone pretty much knowing it is. And that's apparently because the company's going to label the model an FUV. That’s a Ferrari utility vehicle … [Read more...] about Why won’t some car firms call an SUV an SUV?

► F16X: Ferrari's take on the SUV ► Boss admits crossover project is live ► Due 2021, could pack hybrid power After years of denials and rumours, Ferrari has confirmed it’s making an SUV, and now its CEO Sergio Marchionne has revealed more about it. According to a new report by Bloomberg, Ferrari’s SUV will be coming in 2019 or 2020, and it’s got the Lamborghini Urus firmly in its sights.Speaking at the Detroit motor show in January 2018, Marchionne hinted that’d it’d be the fastest SUV on the market, meaning it’ll have to beat the Urus’s physics-bending performance. Lamborghini’s SUV has a top speed of 189 mph, so the new Ferrari will need to be seriously quick. The Ferrari off-roader’s styling remains shrouded in mystery, but our sources suggest it’ll retain hints of Ferrari’s front-engined models, albeit on a taller, larger chassis. CAR magazine confirmed the existence of the … [Read more...] about Ferrari SUV: CEO Marchionne confirms new crossover is coming by 2020
