Sergio Perez’s assessment of his ‘7/10’ season so far with Red Bull
Sergio Perez has been looking back at his season so far and highlighted the Monaco Grand Prix as the highlight of his “7/10” campaign. Now in his second season with Red Bull, the Mexican seems to have improved his understanding of the car and has 63 more points this campaign than he did after the same number of races in 2021. Yet there is a feeling of what could have been currently hanging over Perez. Following his maiden win around the streets of Monaco, there was a sense that Perez, rather than Charles Leclerc, would provide the most realistic challenge to Max Verstappen’s chances of retaining the Drivers’ Championship. But his hopes faded away and at the same rate Verstappen’s performances improved, Perez’s declined. Since the Monaco Grand Prix, he has as many podium finishes as he does DNFs and has finished outside out of the top three in the last two races. Perez, who was ranked sixth on our top 10 drivers of the season so far , was asked by his team to score his season … [Read more...] about Sergio Perez’s assessment of his ‘7/10’ season so far with Red Bull
Carson Wentz’s training camp performance has been consistently inconsistent
In the Washington Commanders' 10 training camp practices so far, quarterback Carson Wentz has been consistently uneven, sometimes throwing incredible darts and other times inexplicable ducks. He has hit hard throws deep and missed easy ones short and they've occasionally come close enough together to prompt the question: How? "[His accuracy] is a lot better than you give him credit for, just because of the way things happen in practice," Coach Ron Rivera said Saturday night after the team's workout at FedEx Field. "There's a lot of little nuances that we see and that we look at and get to review. There are some inaccuracies, but it's nothing that we are overly concerned about." The problem, Rivera argued, is circumstantial. Wentz is still adjusting to a new scheme with new terminology and new progressions, as well as a fast group of receivers who resemble "a 4x100 track team." Give him enough reps, Rivera said, and the offense will be good. For now, though, even die-hard fans … [Read more...] about Carson Wentz’s training camp performance has been consistently inconsistent
Two prominent men died on the Titanic – were they secretly a couple?
Let's be clear up front: No one knows for sure whether Archibald Butt and Francis Davis Millet were in a romantic relationship. In the times and society in which they lived, for such a thing to become known would have meant ruin. Here's what we do know. Butt never married. Millet was estranged from his wife and had a previous relationship with a man. Butt and Millet lived together in a mansion in Washington's tony Georgetown neighborhood, where they threw parties for the city's elite - including Butt's boss, President William Howard Taft. And in the weeks before they died on the Titanic, they were vacationing together in Europe. "The enduring partnership of Butt and Millet was an early case of 'Don't ask, don't tell,' " historian Richard Davenport-Hines wrote in 2012, referring to the policy that once required gay members of the military to keep their sexuality secret. A National Park Service page for the White House memorial fountain in their honor says they were "widely … [Read more...] about Two prominent men died on the Titanic – were they secretly a couple?
Crypto finds a bright spot in a stormy summer: Congress
WASHINGTON - It's been an ugly summer for the cryptocurrency industry everywhere but on Capitol Hill. Despite a pileup of a bad news - layoffs at major companies, ongoing hacks, and the collapse of several high-profile crypto projects that have devastated Main Street investors - the sector is on a hot streak in Congress. In just the last two weeks, a bipartisan group of senators unveiled a proposal to hand oversight of cryptocurrency spot markets to the Commodity Futures Trading Association, the third bipartisan bill since April that would codify a leading role for the industry's preferred regulator. Sens. Patrick Toomey, R-Pa., and Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., teamed up to pitch exempting crypto used for everyday purchases, like buying a sandwich, from capital gains taxes. And that pair, along with Sens. Mark Warner, D-Va., and Cynthia Lummis, R-Wyo., proposed limiting the reach of a provision signed into law last year that tightened tax reporting requirements on crypto … [Read more...] about Crypto finds a bright spot in a stormy summer: Congress

Espargaro’s British GP uncertain after “violent” 115mph MotoGP crash
Listen to this article The Spaniard crashed at 115mph through the Farm Curve left-hander on Saturday afternoon in the FP4 session ahead of qualifying. Espargaro had to be stretchered off track before being taken to the medical centre for checks on his right foot. Despite suffering heavy bruising, Espargaro was able to take part in qualifying and heroically put his Aprilia sixth on the grid – but cancelled all media activities afterwards due to the pain in his foot “getting worse”. At present, his participation in Sunday’s race is uncertain. “The crash was the last thing we needed,” Espargaro said in a team statement. “I was feeling good on the bike, pushing hard, and the high side was rather violent. “I’m in a lot of pain and it is getting worse, so along with the team and the docs, we decided it would be best for me to rest until tomorrow and then evaluate the situation after the warm-up. “I’ll obviously do everything I can to be on the track but, since we’re … [Read more...] about Espargaro’s British GP uncertain after “violent” 115mph MotoGP crash
Vinales: Aprilia hasn’t discussed team orders for Silverstone MotoGP race
Listen to this article Vinales was the fastest of the Aprilias in qualifying at Silverstone after putting his RS-GP second on the grid. Teammate Espargaro qualified sixth, having hurt his right foot in a 115mph crash in FP4. The Spaniard enters the weekend just 21 points off championship leader Fabio Quartararo – who has to serve a long lap penalty in the race – as the campaign enters its second half. Vinales has spoken previously about a willingness to help Espargaro on track if he can, but insists no team orders have been talked about for Sunday’s race within Aprilia. “Well, the best way to help is to stay in front,” he replied when asked how he could aid his teammate in the race. “At Aprilia we didn’t talk about nothing, but at the end it’s a question of being in the position where I can help Aleix. “But on my mind right now is the way I want run the race, trying to take the first places and push very hard because in MotoGP right now the first 10 laps decides … [Read more...] about Vinales: Aprilia hasn’t discussed team orders for Silverstone MotoGP race
Qatar MotoGP: Bastianini tops FP3 to push Quartararo into Q1
Listen to this article With FP3 being run in the daylight in windier and dustier conditions than Friday, combined time improvements were few and far between on Saturday afternoon. Friday pacesetter Alex Rins on the Suzuki set the early pace in the session with a 1m55.562s, before Aprilia’s Aleix Espargaro took over with a 1m55.016s. Rins would return to the top of the order with a 1m54.803s, and the 2022 Suzuki continues to look like a weapon following a strong pre-season and opening day to the campaign. Reigning world champion Quartararo took over top spot with a 1m54.794s on his factory Yamaha with just under 20 minutes to go. Fellow Frenchman Johann Zarco on the Pramac Ducati – which is running the full 2022-spec engine and not the hybrid 2021/2022 version the factory team duo are using – edged ahead with a 1m54.441s. This lap was an improvement on his best from Friday, though still only kept him in 16th on the combined order and out of a Q2 spot. Fabio … [Read more...] about Qatar MotoGP: Bastianini tops FP3 to push Quartararo into Q1
