Add Your Vehicle to Spring Forward Safety Checklist
Spring is here and its arrival means warmer weather, more hours of daylight and spring break travel. As you set your clocks forward on March 11, and plan to check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, take a few steps to make sure your vehicle is safe and road-trip ready, says the non-profit Car Care Council. Check that all interior and exterior lighting is working properly and replace worn wiper blades so you can see clearly when driving at night and during spring showers. Check the tires, including tire pressure and tread. Underinflated tires reduce a vehicle’s fuel economy and uneven wear indicates a need for wheel alignment. Tires should also be checked for bulges and bald spots. Check filters and fluids, including engine oil, power steering and brake and transmission, as well as windshield washer solvent and antifreeze/coolant. Dirty air filters can waste gas and cause the engine to lose power. Check the hoses and belts and replace if they become loose, cracked, … [Read more...] about Add Your Vehicle to Spring Forward Safety Checklist
Review: 2014 Mazda6 GT – Rocky Road ice cream in a freezer full of vanilla
March 20, 2014 by Andrew Ling Leave a Comment One can draw a similarity when it comes to mid-sized family cars. The top selling car in America is the Toyota Camry. A competent but safe choice, sort of like vanilla ice cream. Even Honda played it safe with the Accord’s styling when the sedan was redesigned recently. The top selling sedan has been criticised for looking too derivative even though the new shape is certainly an upgrade over the prior model. The Mazda6? Well it’s sort of a wallflower among the big selling midsized sedans. While it’s probably never going to sell in the same numbers as the Camry or the Accord, consumers would be remised in passing it up during their shopping. Personally, I’ve always enjoyed Rocky Road ice cream. So when I recently had the chance to get the keys to a 2014 Mazda6 GT with <gasp> a 6 speed manual transmission, I knew I had to give it a go. EXTERIOR The Mazda6 is definitely one of the sleekest sedans you can buy. … [Read more...] about Review: 2014 Mazda6 GT – Rocky Road ice cream in a freezer full of vanilla
My $800 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Surprised Me On The Off-Road Trails Of Moab
After driving my $800 Jeep Grand Wagoneer 1,700 miles from Michigan to Utah, I finally got a chance to take the big Woodie off-road. And my god was it glorious. Much more so than I expected. When I bought Project Redwood a few months ago, the big Jeep hadn’t run in over 12 years. So to think that I could somehow wrench it back to life on my tiny budget, drive it 1,700 miles, and off-road it was a bit of a dream. Especially since four-wheel drive didn’t work. But on Wednesday, I slid under those rusted-out rocker panels in the parking lot of a Moab Best Western with a flathead screwdriver, a quarter-inch drive ratchet and a prayer: I had to leave later that day to drive back to Michigan and then fly to Germany for a funeral, so this was it: get four-wheel drive and low-range working, or drive home without ever hitting the rocks of Moab, the off-road Mecca of the world. Naturally, I had no intention of taking that second route. So I installed the front driveshaft, jacked up … [Read more...] about My $800 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Surprised Me On The Off-Road Trails Of Moab
Range Rover Velar P250 road test review
A good two weeks have passed between the time I drove the Range Rover Velar and penned this review. In this time, it has grown on me. The vehicle we drove and what you see here, does not give the best impression of the Velar - the grey is quite dull and lacks some of the cosmetic sheen that you can otherwise specify on the options list. I was starting to feel that its platform cousin, the Jaguar F-Pace, feels more desirable. But then I saw a Range Rover Velar late in the night, slowly appearing out of a dark alley, wearing a red color on the body and gloss black on the roof and the wheels. What a sight! It looked sinister and how. If I were to buy one that is exactly how I would like it. The Velar also happens to be one of the few European SUVs I spotted in Fujairah when I was in the Middle East recently, and in typical Range Rover fashion, its sophisticated form looked right at home even with sand dunes and rocky mountains in the backdrop. Design But is it a true-blooded Range Rover? … [Read more...] about Range Rover Velar P250 road test review
