Under the dusk evening sky in Slovakia, Gabriele Tarquini took his fourth race win of the 2018 World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) season, and reclaimed the lead of the drivers’ points championship as a result. Norbert Nagy would start the reversed-grid race from pole position with Tarquini alongside on the front row, and although the Zengo Motorsport driver got a good getaway, he was matched by the experienced Italian. The pair ran side-by-side through the first couple of corners, but by turn three Nagy had no choice but to concede the lead to Tarquini as the track curved in his favour. Aurelien Comte began to drop back on lap two, first being passed by John Filippi, and then the Munnich Motorsport duo of Esteban Guerrieri and Yann Ehrlacher. Just behind, a seven-car battle was raging just outside the top ten. As the wounded Alfa Romeo of Fabrizio Giovanardi began to act as a road block, Nathanael Berthon and Jean-Karl Vernay started to eek out a gap over the rest of the group. … [Read more...] about Tarquini wins second race in Slovakia

Alexander Albon clinched his second pole position of the season for the feature race on Saturday at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The DAMS driver makes it two in a row after a clever tactic to set a lap on a clear track with a 1:28.142s, beating Pertamina Prema Theodore Racing‘s Nyck de Vries and Campos Vexatec Racing‘s Luca Ghiotto. The pair set their laps in the dying moments of the session, beating the ART Grand Prix‘s George Russell and Jack Aitken, who round off the top ten. Nicholas Latifi joined his DAMS’ team-mate out on the clear track to set his lap but was pushed down the order late on to sixth place on the grid. The Canadian will start ahead of Russian Time‘s Tadasuke Makino and championship leader Lando Norris. The MP Motorsport‘s round off the top ten of qualifying with Ralph Boschung starting in ninth ahead of Spain’s Roberto Merhi. Qualifying got under way for the feature race pole with Trident‘s Arjun Maini first … [Read more...] about DAMS’ Albon Captures FIA Formula 2 Feature Race Pole In Barcelona
For the second race of the inaugural TCR UK Series weekend, Stewart Lines and Olli Kangas would line up on the front row of the starting grid. Unlike other race series, TCR UK has a rather unconventional system to determine the starting order for Race 2. The second-best lap times posted by each driver during qualifying are taken, and then the top 10 is reversed, which will hopefully offer more variety in the on-track battles throughout 2018. Due to an infringement regarding where/when mechanics worked on his car, Darelle Wilson‘s weekend became even more difficult as he was promptly given a grid penalty. Originally set to line up from 4th on the grid, Wilson would now have to start from the very back, alongside Derek Palmer Jnr‘s so-far unreliable Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR. Having retired from Race 1, this had compounded an unfortunate weekend for Wilson who had shown strong form at times on Saturday. As the lights went out, Andreas Backman got a tremendous launch in his … [Read more...] about Lloyd rounds off perfect weekend with second race victory
