Williams have signed the 2021 GB3 champion Zak O’Sullivan to their driver academy and confirmed he will contest in this year’s FIA Formula 3 championship. Advert | Become a Supporter & go ad-free O’Sullivan is the latest driver announced to join this year’s F3 championship, racing again with Carlin after he claimed last season’s GB3 (previously known as British F3) championship title with them, taking seven race victories and 14 podiums. The 16-year-old becomes the latest signing to the Williams Racing Driver Academy after team principal Jost Capito expressed a desire to expand the team’s young driver programme into a “serious and proper junior programme” late last year. Bovy, Kodric, Ebrahim among Lamborghini’s junior programme intake
The Italian manufacturer released names of 13 drivers from around the globe, aged 26 and below, that will be part of its programme in 2016. The drivers are already competing in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo championships in North America, Europe and Asia. India's Ebrahim is among the most experienced drivers on the list and currently races in the Asian Super Trofeo. The 26-year-old has an extensive background in single-seaters, having raced in A1GP, GP2 Asia, FIA Formula 2 and Indy Lights before moving to sportscars. The lone female in the programme - Belgian driver Bovy - picked up a podium finish in the Prestige class in last year's Renault Sport Trophy round at Spa - and currently races in Lamborghini Super Trofeo in Europe. Lawson ‘will be a grand prix driver but may have to wait’ – Horner
Liam Lawson’s performances as a substitute for AlphaTauri may earn him a full-time seat in the future, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has said. Lawson made his F1 debut in the Dutch Grand Prix in place of Daniel Ricciardo , who broke his wrist during Friday practice. Hulkenberg takes second Driver of the Weekend win
For the second time in three races Nico Hulkenberg topped the Driver of the Weekend poll, this time following his stern defence from Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso during the Korean Grand Prix. Hulkenberg also won with the highest percentage of votes of anyone this season. Sebastian Vettel made his eighth appearance in the top three this year, but perhaps even more impressive is the fact that he’s now been in the top two for the last four races. Another driver to feature in the top three for their eighth time this year was Kimi Raikkonen who came in third. 1. Nico Hulkenberg Started: 8th Hulkenberg put his ever-improving Sauber an impressive eighth – which would become seventh on the grid on Saturday due to Mark Webber’s ten place grid penalty – just two tenths shy of Alonso’s Ferrari. FIA targets “significant reduction in size and weight” of F1 cars in 2026
Formula 1 teams and the FIA have made “significant progress” in discussions to make cars smaller and lighter when new technical regulations come into effect in 2026. While draft 2026 power unit regulations were published last year, the chassis regulations are yet to be confirmed. Many F1 drivers have criticised the ever-increasing weight of modern F1 cars. The current generation of ground effect cars weigh almost 800kg. But does that plus the team’s racing pedigree mark it out as being worthy of the coveted 11th slot on the grid? Founded by Oliver Oakes in 2015, it at least the third team to use the name ‘Hitech’. The former racer obtained permission to use the name from David Hayle, who launched the original Hitech Racing team in 2003 to race in British Formula 3, and knew Oakes as a World Karting Championship-winning youngster.
