FULL ENTRY FOR BULLDOG INTERNATIONAL RALLY OF NORTH WALES Wolverhampton and South Staffordshire Car Club are delighted at the response to the first Bulldog International Rally of North Wales, which takes place next weekend, and has attracted a capacity entry. With almost 200 applications for the 180 places received, the organising team has been overwhelmed by the excitement that has greeted the new event. There are seven previous British Champions (Russell Brookes, Gwyndaf Evans, David Higgins, Mark Higgins, Dessie Nutt, Steve Perez and David Stokes) but only two past winners of the Bulldog (Brookes and Julian Reynolds) in the line up. Mark Higgins, from Abermule, has been given the top seed in the international event. Mark, a previous double British Champion, leads the International field in his TEG Sport Subaru. Bourdais, Foyt targeting best title campaign for 19 years
Airton Daré was the last Foyt driver to break into the top 10 in the end of year points standings, on the back of a win at Kansas and a third at Texas, resulting in ninth in the 2002 Indy Racing League – at that time an all-oval series. Since then, the squad owned by Indy car icon A.J. Foyt – seven-time champion and four-time Indy 500 winner – have landed podiums with Darren Manning, Vitor Meira, Mike Conway, Takuma Sato and Tony Kanaan, and Sato scored another victory for the squad at Long Beach in 2013. But the season-long consistency required to finish in the Top 10 has evaded them. However, the hiring of four-time Champ Car title winner and 37-time race winner Bourdais has lit the team’s ambition, and the speed shown in testing has left all involved, including team president Larry Foyt, cautiously optimistic. Van Gisbergen breaks collarbone in bike crash
The Supercars points leader broke his collarbone while mountain biking this morning (Saturday). He has since undergone surgery in Brisbane to have a plate inserted. Triple Eight is expecting van Gisbergen to be fit for the second round of the Supercars season at Sandown in a fortnight. However he will sit out next weekend's GT World Challenge Australia opener at Phillip Island , teammate Jamie Whincup to take his spot alongside Prince Jefri Ibrahim in the squad's Mercedes. "Shane van Gisbergen is recovering from successful surgery on his collarbone after a mountain biking accident this morning," read a statement from Triple Eight. "The Red Bull Ampol Racing driver had a plate inserted during the routine procedure in Brisbane this afternoon and is expected to recover well.
