Former Tesla technician Martin Tripp told Jalopnik on Thursday that he’s lawyering up and plans to file a countersuit against the automaker, which accused him on Tuesday of stealing reams of confidential data and making false claims to news outlets. That’s all to say nothing of his heated, headline-grabbing email exchange with CEO Elon Musk. Tripp said he has been dealing with a sudden onslaught of attention over the past 48 hours, after Tesla filed an explosive lawsuit on Tuesday that accused him of secretly leaking documents to news organizations and then exaggerating the claims that he made. In that time, he sparked a wild exchange by email with Musk, who called him a “horrible person,” and, after someone alluded to where he lives in an article online, he said he has since fled to a hotel, where he’s been camped out with his family since. “They’re out to get me,” Tripp told Jalopnik in a near half-hour interview by phone. … [Read more...] about Tesla Leaker Is ‘Looking Forward To The Lawsuit’ Over Alleged Stolen Documents
Unpaid bills. Allegations of abusive treatment. Explosive text messages. Car companies leaving for a competing series. Once, Red Bull Global Rallycross seemed like a bright spot in the racing world: action-packed events popular with young fans where Subarus, Volkswagens and more flew across dirt and asphalt courses. Now GRC’s future seems in doubt, and according to lawsuits obtained by Jalopnik, participants and former employees alike are left with little more than a bad taste in their mouths. On Tuesday, GRC’s 2018 season and perhaps its entire future came grinding to an apparent halt. GRC’s 2018 events website is totally blank, and Lancaster National Speedway & Dragway announced it was informed by GRC management the series had ceased operation. But according to court documents, this possible end of the series has been in the works for months, at least. GRC surprised fans with the discontinuation of its top Supercars class in February, but the lack of cars … [Read more...] about Ugly Lawsuit Documents The Implosion Of Red Bull Global Rallycross
Last week, I asked Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. to comment on claims made in a lengthy letter that says the company knew for more than 20 years about failures on a tire linked to hundreds of crashes that have left at least 98 people either injured or killed. I obtained the letter, along with more than 200 pages of exhibits to the letter, from a court in Arizona following a judge’s earlier decision that led the court’s clerk to briefly unseal the records. Goodyear never responded to me. Instead, unbeknownst to us at Jalopnik, the company asked the Arizona judge to call me directly and intone that I should, in the words of Goodyear’s attorney, “do the right thing” and not publish those documents. The judge denied Goodyear’s request, never made that call and we published our story. Companies historically have used the courts to try to block the release of sensitive documents, but asking a judge to take the bold approach of calling a reporter directly … [Read more...] about Goodyear Asked A Judge To Call Jalopnik And Request We Not Publish Documents On Its Dangerous RV Tire
