THESE amazing overhead photographs show the vast Volkswagen "graveyards" in America. Spread across 37 compounds around 300,000 diesels lie disused after VW bought the cheating models back from US owners. The German firm has paid out more than $7billion (£5billion) this year following the 2015 Dieselgate scandal, according to court reports. And the latest images show how Volkswagen is storing the models. The close-ups show luxury Audi saloons are also included alongside VW Beetles and Golfs. The lots, spread across the US, include a Detroit football stadium, a former Minnesota paper mill and a desert plot in California. Jeannine Ginivan, VW spokeswoman, said: ""These vehicles are being stored on an interim basis and routinely maintained in a manner to ensure their long-term operability and quality, so that they may be returned to commerce or exported once U.S. regulators approve appropriate emissions modifications." We love mopeds here at Gas 2– and it’s easy to see why. The small, lightweight bikes offer urban mobility without anything near the carbon footprint of cars, and are usually accessibly priced. Usually. The latest rolling sculpture from the moped artisans at Bandit9, however? Not so much. Why do I say that? Because the Bandit9 Eve Liquid Black shown here costs a full ten-thousand three-hundred and fifty US American dollars. That’s $10,350 in numerical form- and a full $3000 more than Paul Elio is currently asking for his vaporware pre-production three-wheeler. Heck, that’s enough money to buy a wholly dependable used car that’s equipped with stuff like power windows, cruise control, and air conditioning. Maybe even doors! What makes this bantamweight motorcycle worth the steep asking price? Well, if words like “hand-crafted” and “bespoke” don’t mean anything to you, then there’s very little that can be said to … [Read more...] about 2017 Bandit9 Eve Liquid Black May Be the World’s Sexiest Moped
What is it?The second coming of the A7, Audi’s take on the four-door coupe trend kicked off by the Mercedes-Benz CLS. It’s a more rakish, sloping, low-slung sister car to the upcoming A6 saloon, with a hatchback boot and a focus on design touches that make onlookers coo and nod reverentially like they’re surveying a fine art gallery. You wanted Audis to look a bit different, and carry some bravado? Here you go. The designers got so obsessed they even moved the fuel filler cap so it didn’t foul the styling line. We may have reached Peak German. Audis always major on design attention to detail, often more than absolute driving pin-sharpness. So the A7 ought to be Audi’s absolute comfort zone. And in many ways, this ice-cool express really is. A great deal of A7 Mk2 is shared with the latest Audi A8 – the chassis building blocks (now much more prevalent in steel than aluminium), the interior technology, and the mild-hybrid … [Read more...] about The Top Gear car review: Audi A7
Today at the North American International Auto Show, Kia Motors bestowed the all-new 2019 Forte upon the world. Granted, it’ll mainly be in the hands those entering the workforce for the first time, but those budget-minded youngsters will be please to learn that the third-generation Forte boasts improved fuel economy and features. It’s not all touchscreens and gas savings, however. It doesn’t look like the new model has had to make many sacrifices, but Kia is launching the base Forte with a CVT instead of the six-speed automatic the current generation uses. That has us a little uneasy, though Kia promises it won’t be an abysmal substitute and that the rest of the improvements should help deliver a vehicle that represents a net gain in refinement.Excuse the phrasing, but it’s nice to see the rear end getting some attention. I recently walked through a rental lot littered with late-model compact sedans from Nissan, Toyota, Hyundai, Chevrolet, and … [Read more...] about 2019 Kia Forte Sedan: Vastly Improved But Unlikely to Best the Hatchback
Fueling prices and average economy aren’t exactly the sexiest of automotive topics, but they are the two that will probably influence your life the most directly in the coming year. Expensive gas thrusted countless Americans into economy cars during the early 1980s and 2000s, so any advanced warning would be useful to those considering a new vehicle this year.Last month, crude prices surpassed $60 per barrel after weekly American output dipped and stockpiles fell. That’s the highest they’ve been in over two-years and, with OPEC cutting production and China hungrier for the black stuff than ever before, prices aren’t expected to drop anytime soon. Does that mean you should nix purchasing that big sport utility vehicle you’ve been eyeballing and option the greener alternative? Not necessarily and, if you do, you’ll certainly be in the minority. The University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute, which tracks average fuel economy, noted … [Read more...] about Predicting the Pump: How Much Will We Be Paying for Gas in 2018?
